Octappella
Octappella is a seven-man contemporary a cappella group based in Utah. The members first sang together in college. Since forming Octappella, they have released three albums and were featured performers at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games. Their albums feature a mix of humorous and original material and covers of classic songs from groups such as Styx and REO Speedwagon. The group won two 2006 ''Contemporary A Cappella Society'' awards, one in the Religious Album category (for ''Worship'') and one for Religious Song (for Anthem to My King, from ''Worship''). Tragic Black
Tragic Black is an American deathrock band formed in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2000 by musicians known as Vision and Vyle. It has incorporated elements of darkwave music into each of its albums. Lyrically, Tragic Black's themes for the songs deal with religion, political issues and spirituality. History Tragic Black most recently released video for "Play For Today", a cover by The Cure. In April 2016, Tragic Black released their latest album "NOSTALGIA" on Danse Macabre Records in Germany. NOSTALGIA was recorded at BASSLAB studio by Steven Comeau (of STARBASS) who recorded/mixed/mastered and did additional programming. Mormon Tabernacle Choir
The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, formerly known as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, is an American choir, acting as part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). It has performed in the Salt Lake Tabernacle for over 100 years. The Tabernacle houses Salt Lake Tabernacle organ, an organ, consisting of 11,623 pipes, which usually accompanies the choir. The choir was founded on August 22, 1847, twenty-nine days after the Mormon pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley. Prospective singers must be LDS Church members who are eligible for a temple recommend, between 25 and 55 years of age at the start of choir service, and live within of Temple Square. The choir is one of the most famous in the world. It first performed for a President of the United States, U.S. President in 1911, and has performed at the inaugurations of presidents Lyndon B. Swim Herschel Swim
Swim Herschel Swim was a popular ska band in Provo, Utah from 1989 to 1993. The band's initial members were Rod Middleton (lead singer), Jon Armstrong (keyboardist), Rich Hillquist (drums), Russell Cluff (bass), and Rick Anderson (guitar). Jeff Hubbard replaced Cluff on bass shortly after the band's formation, and Sam Reisner (saxophone) joined in 1991. Middleton and Armstrong continued in the band when the remaining members changed around 1992 to Pat Campbell (drums), Matt Corry (trombone), Kent Carter (bass), Andy Warr (saxophone), and Lou Eastman (guitar). Their manager Dave Merkley was also involved in many aspects of the band's development. Swim Herschel Swim opened for national bands Skankin' Pickle, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and No Doubt in 1992. While their charismatic performances and enthusiastic audiences made it difficult to find repeat venues, the band is praised for jump-starting the local music scene in Utah, specifically in ska music. Stonecircle
Stonecircle is an acoustic Celtic fusion band, formed in 1993 in Salt Lake City, Utah by George Schoemaker (12-string guitar, harmonica, vocals). Current members of the band are Krista Baker ( fiddle, violin), Nina Cooley ( flute, percussion, background vocals), Brian Dobson (uilleann pipes, Irish whistle, bodhran) and Mary Johnston-Coursey (vocals, whistles, percussion). The stated goal of the band is "to create a musical experience that is both ethereal and beautifully uplifting". The Celtic fusion sound mixes traditional tunes from England, Scotland, Ireland and Brittany with original vocal and instrumental songs in the Celtic style. Schoemaker writes many of the original lyrics, drawing from Greek mythology, Celtic folk tales, and historical episodes from France and the British Isles. Sleepthief
''Sleepthief'' is an American electronic music recording project formed by producer and composer Justin Elswick. Elswick began writing music for the album ten years prior to its release. The album was mixed, mastered, co-produced, and co-arranged by Israel Curtis. Sleepthief's first album, ''The Dawnseeker'', was released in 2006. Sleepthief is most often compared to musical groups such as Delerium (in its output from the mid-1990s onward) and Balligomingo, which produce emotive, melodic, synthesized music with what is often described as new-age-influenced ethnic characteristics from other cultures. Also similar to these groups is Sleepthief's use of pop music-based song structures with performances by female singers. Ryan Shupe & The RubberBand
Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand is an American country music and bluegrass group founded in the mid-1990s in Ogden, Utah. The band's current lineup comprises Ryan Shupe ( fiddle, guitar, ukulele, mandolin, lead vocals), Roger Archibald (guitar, vocals), Craig Miner (banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, guitar, vocals), Josh Larsen (bass guitar, string bass, vocals), and Nate Young (drums, vocals). After recording four studio albums on their own independent record label, Ryan Shupe & The RubberBand were signed to Capitol Records in 2005. Their first album for Capitol, 2005's '' Dream Big'', produced a Top 40 hit on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot Country Songs charts in its title track. The second single from the album, however, failed to chart, and the band was dropped from Capitol. In 2008, the band signed to Montage Music Group and released the album Last Man Standing. SHeDAISY () was an American country music vocal group from Magna, Utah. The group consisted of sisters Kristyn Robyn Osborn (born August 24, 1970), Kelsi Marie Osborn (born November 21, 1974), and Kassidy Lorraine Osborn (born October 30, 1976). The group's name is derived from the word ''shideezhí'', a Navajo term meaning "my little sister". The trio began their careers as The Osborn Sisters, were signed to the Nashville division of RCA Records, and recorded an album that was never released. By 1999 the sisters renamed the group SHeDAISY and signed to Lyric Street Records. Their first album, ''The Whole SHeBANG'', was issued that year and certified platinum in the United States. A Christmas album entitled ''Brand New Year'' was released in 2000, ''Knock on the Sky'' was issued in 2002, the gold-certified ''Sweet Right Here'' was released in 2004, ''Fortuneteller's Melody'' in 2006, and the compilation ''The Best of SHeDAISY'' in 2008.
