''Sanctuary'' is a Canadian science fiction-fantasy television series created by Damian Kindler. It premiered on Syfy on October 3, 2008. Kindler originally created ''Sanctuary'' as an eight-part web series, but later it was adapted for television. The series is set in the fictional city of Old City and follows centuries-old scientist Helen Magnus and her team: daughter Ashley; protégé Will Zimmerman; computer tech and Lycan Henry Foss; and an aptly named "Bigfoot"; and con artist Kate Freelander. The Sanctuary team assumes the mission of tracking "Abnormals" (specially gifted humans and creatures), and bringing them to the Sanctuary for the dual purpose of protecting the public as well as the Abnormals themselves. Sanctuary (Canadian TV Series)
''Sanctuary'' is a Canadian science fiction- fantasy television series, created by Damian Kindler and funded largely by the Beedie Development Group. The show aired for four seasons and a total of 59 episodes, between 2008 and 2011, and a fifth season was planned but it was never made. The series was produced by Canadian television production company My Plastic Badger. The show is an expansion of an eight- webisode series that was released through the Internet in early 2007. Seeing the success of the web series, Syfy decided to buy the broadcast rights to the series and pay to re-stage the series in a season of thirteen episodes. The show centres on Dr. Helen Magnus, a 157-year-old teratologist, and her team of experts who run the Sanctuary, an organization that seeks out extraordinarily powerful creatures and people, known as Abnormals, and tries to help and to learn from them while also having to contain the more dangerous ones. A webisode (portmanteau of "web" and "episode") is an episode of a series that is distributed as part of a web series or on streaming television. It is available as either for download or in streaming, as opposed to first airing on broadcast or cable television. The format can be used as a preview, a promotion, as part of a collection of shorts, or a commercial. A webisode may or may not have been broadcast on TV. What defines it is its online distribution on the web, or through video-sharing web sites such as Vimeo or YouTube. TVShowsOnDVD.com was a website dedicated to cataloging, campaigning for, and reporting news about Region 1 television series releases on DVD and region A Blu-ray. The site's slogan asked "Is YOUR Favorite Show On DVD?" From February 2007 until its closing, the site was affiliated with TV Guide. In March 2013, TVGuide.com was acquired by CBS Interactive, transferring control of TVShowsOnDVD.com to the new owners. On May 25, 2018, the website was shut down, and news updates were moved to social media. DVD Region Code
DVD region codes are a digital rights management technique introduced in 1997. It is designed to allow rights holders to control the international distribution of a DVD release, including its content, release date, and price, all according to the appropriate region. This is achieved by way of region-locked DVD players, which will play back only DVDs encoded to their region (plus those without any region code). The Blu-ray Disc (BD), often known simply as Blu-ray, is a digital optical disc data storage format. It was invented and developed in 2005 and released on June 20, 2006 worldwide. It is designed to supersede the DVD format, and capable of storing several hours of high-definition video (HDTV 720p and 1080p). Martin Wood is a Canadian television director who has been directing since the mid-1990s. He specializes in science fiction, where he is best known for his work as a director and producer on '' Stargate SG-1'' (46 episodes), as well as its spin-off series '' Stargate Atlantis'' (30 episodes). Career Martin Wood began his television career in 1995.
