Malayalam (; , ) is a Dravidian languages, Dravidian language spoken in the Indian state of Kerala and the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry (union territory), Puducherry (Mahé district) by the Malayali people. It is one of 22 Languages with official status in India, scheduled languages of India. Malayalam was designated a "Classical Languages of India, Classical Language of India" in 2013. Changampuzha Krishna Pillai
Changampuzha Krishna Pillai (10 October 1911 – 17 June 1948) was a celebrated Malayalam poet from Kerala, India, known for his elegy '' Ramanan'' which was written in 1936 and sold over 100,000 copies. It is a long pastoral elegy, a play written in the form of verse, allegedly based on the life of Changampuzha's friend Edappally Raghavan Pillai. It is also adapted into a movie in 1967. He is credited with bringing poetry to the masses with his simple romantic style. He died of tuberculosis aged 36. His style influenced the next few generations of Malayalam poetry, notable among them was Vayalar Ramavarma, famous Malayalam lyricist. Kakkanadan
George Varghese Kakkanadan (23 April 1935 – 19 October 2011), commonly known as Kakkanadan, was an Indian short-story writer and novelist in the Malayalam language. His works broke away from the Neorealism (art), neo-realism that dominated Malayalam literature through the 1950s and 1960s. He is often credited with laying the foundation of Modernist literature, modernism in Malayalam literature. He is a recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award#The Award, Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Awards in addition to numerous other awards and recognitions. Kainikkara Padmanabha Pillai (10 October 1898 – 30 January 1976), popularly identified as Swathithirunal Kainikkara Padmanabha Pillai after his magnum opus, ''Swathithirunal'', was an Indian author of Malayalam literature, actor, speaker, teacher and thinker. He was known for his plays which dealt with themes such as patriotism, sacrifice and justice and his characters showed heroism, showing influence of William Shakespeare. Kainikkara Kumara Pillai (27 September 1900 – 9 December 1988) was an Indian teacher, actor, short story writer, essayist and playwright of Malayalam literature, best known for his plays such as ''Harichandra'', ''Mathruka Manushyan'' and ''Mohavum, Mukhtiyum''. He was the younger brother of Kainikkara Padmanabha Pillai, a noted author and thinker. An author of 18 books, Kumara Pillai was awarded the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Drama in 1970. Kadathanat Madhavi Amma (15 June 1909 – 24 December 1999) was an Indian poet, novelist and short story writer of Malayalam literature. Known for poetry anthologies such as ''Kalyopaharam'' and ''Kanikkonna'', she was also the author of two works based on Vadakkan Pattukal viz. ''Thacholi Othenan'' and ''Payyamvelli Chandu''. Gracy is a Malayalam author. Her first collection of short stories, ''Padiyirangippoya Parvati'', was published in 1991. Her awards include the Lalithambika Antharjanam Award (1995), the Thoppil Ravi Award (1997), the Katha Prize for the Best Malayalam Short Story (1998) and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award (2000). Girish Puthenchery was a noted Malayalam lyricist, poet, scriptwriter and screenwriter, esteemed for his pivotal role as a lyricist in Malayalam cinema. He was often hailed as the aristocratic lyricist of Malayalam and was admired for his unique and distinctive writing style. He also served as the director of Indian Performance Rights Society's Malayalam division (I.P.R.S) and was a member of the governing councils of both Kerala Kalamandalam and the Kerala Lalithakala Academy. He made his debut with the film Enquiry in 1989 .He won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Lyricist seven times. He also holds the record for writing the highest number of songs in the Malayalam film industry in the shortest period of time.
