List Of Greek Football Champions
The Greek football champions are the winners of Super League Greece, the highest professional football league in Greece. Officially the title has been contested since 1927–28, in various forms of competition, officially bearing the Super League name since 2006–07. Olympiacos are the current title holders, having won in 2024–25. Efforts to build a region–wide championship were established as early as 1898, when only the Football League First Division in England and the Swiss Serie A in Switzerland had been codified as nationwide, independent league tournaments. After the concept seemed to have faded by the turn of the 20th century, various championships, initially organised by the Hellenic Athletics Federation (known as SEGAS), were held from 1906 to 1912. Hellenic Olympic Committee
The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC, ) is the governing Olympic body of Greece. It is the second-oldest National Olympic Committee in the world (after the French Olympic Committee), it organizes the country's representatives at the Olympic Games and other multi-sport events. Macedonia Football Clubs Association
Macedonia Football Clubs Association ( ''Énosi Podosferikón Somatíon Makedonías'' or Ε.Π.Σ.Μ.) is an association responsible for administering football in the Prefecture of Thessaloniki. It was formed in 1924 as ''Football Union of Macedonia and Thrace'' ( ''Podosferikí Énosi Makedonías Thrákis'') and it administrated football in the regions of West Macedonia, Central Macedonia and East Macedonia and Thrace. Since 1935 its area of responsibility was restricted within the borders of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki. Founding members of the union were Aris, Iraklis and Megas Alexandros. Piraeus Football Clubs Association
The Piraeus Football Clubs Association (, abbreviated E.P.S.P. (Ε.Π.Σ.Π.) was founded in 1925 after the termination of E.P.S. Athens-Piraeus. It was the second largest football association in Greece and was officially recognized by FIFA alongside E.P.S. Athens, as the Hellenic Football Federation had not been established at the time. After the establishment of Alpha Ethniki it became the Piraeus Football Clubs Association for amateurs. History Olympiacos participated in Piraeus Championship from the first time in 1925, immediately after its inception. They were invincible and won the final defeating Piraikos with 4-2. The Greece Football Clubs Association (FCA) (, ''Enosi Podosferikon Somation (E.P.S.) Ellados''), founded in 1919 as the Athens-Piraeus FCA (, ''E.P.S. Athinon-Pireos''), was the first governing body of football in Greece, before the Hellenic Football Federation. Prior to the FCA's founding, football competitions had been organised by the Hellenic Amateur Athletic Association, the Committee of the Olympic Games, or local clubs. As evidenced by the association's name, it originally included clubs from Athens and Piraeus, however it eventually sought to attain a nationwide status, even staging a national final between the champions of Athens-Piraeus and Thessaloniki in 1923. Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922)
The Greco-Turkish War of 1919–1922 was fought between Greece and the Turkish National Movement during the partitioning of the Ottoman Empire in the aftermath of World War I, between 15 May 1919 and 14 October 1922. This conflict was a part of the Turkish War of Independence. The Greek campaign was launched primarily because the western Allies, particularly British Prime Minister David Lloyd George, had promised Greece territorial gains at the expense of the Ottoman Empire, recently defeated in World War I. Greek claims stemmed from the fact that Western Anatolia had been part of Ancient Greece and the Byzantine Empire before the Turks conquered the area in the 12th–15th centuries.
