First Comics
First Comics is an American comic book publisher that was active from 1983 to 1991 and then from 2011 to present (stylized as 1First Comics), known for titles like '' American Flagg!'', '' Grimjack'', ''Nexus'', ''Badger'', '' Dreadstar'', and '' Jon Sable''. Along with competitors like Pacific Comics and Eclipse Comics, First took early advantage of the growing direct market, attracting a number of writers and artists from DC and Marvel to produce creator-owned titles, which, as they were not subject to the Comics Code, were free to feature more mature content. Filmation
Filmation Associates was an American production company founded by Lou Scheimer, Hal Sutherland and Norm Prescott in 1962, before closing by Group W Productions on February 3, 1989. Located in Reseda, California, Filmation produced animated and live-action productions. ''Team Yankee'' is a techno-thriller novel written in 1987 by Harold Coyle, then a major in the United States Army. ''Squalor'' was a 4-issue limited series published by First Comics which ran from December 1989 through March 1990 and was created by Stefan Petrucha (writer) and Tom Sutton (penciller). Pacific Comics
Pacific Comics was a comic book Distribution (marketing), distributor and Comic book publisher, publisher active from 1971 to 1984. The company began as a San Diego, California, comic book shop owned by brothers Bill Schanes, Bill and Steve Schanes, later moving into comics distribution and then publishing. As a publisher, starting in 1981, Pacific took early advantage of the growing direct market, attracting a number of writers and artists from DC Comics and Marvel Comics to produce creator ownership, creator-owned titles, which were not subject to the Comics Code, and thus were free to feature more mature content. ''Starslayer: The Log of the Jolly Roger'' was an American comic book series created by Mike Grell. Publication history Grell originally created ''Starslayer'' for DC Comics, but plans to publish it were halted after the mass cancellation of titles known as the DC Implosion. Instead, he offered it to Pacific Comics, who released it as a six issue series in 1982. It was originally intended as an ongoing series per Pacific Comics's publisher Bill Schanes; however, Grell's developing relationship with the new First Comics and previous working relationship with their editorial director Mike Gold (who had been Grell's editor at DC) swayed him to release future issues with First. Shatter (digital Comic)
Shatter is a comic created by Peter B. Gillis and Mike Saenz, and published by First Comics. The comic is dystopian science fiction fantasy somewhat in the mold of ''Blade Runner'', "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale", and other cyberpunk stories. ''Shatter'' was written by Gillis and illustrated directly on a computer by Saenz. ''Shatter'' was the first commercially published comic where all art for publication was entered by hand on the computer as opposed to later methods of scanning in inked pages for color application. Until the late 1970s to early 1980s computer generated comics were done with traditional text and line-printing techniques or semigraphics, ascii art, and BBC's ceefax teletext. ''Sensei'' is a four-issue limited series published by First Comics from March 1989 to August 1989. ''Nexus'' is an American comic book series created by writer Mike Baron and penciler Steve Rude in 1981. The series is a combination of the superhero and science fiction genres, set 500 years in the future.
