''Legacy'' is the debut studio album by American underground rapper Akir. It was released on March 20, 2006 via Viper Records. Recording sessions took place at Viper Studios in New York. Production was handled by SouthPaw, Apex, Dada, Den'D Productions, DJ N'finit, DJ Static, Fyre Dept., Illastrate, Rsonist, YG, and Akir himself. It features guest appearances from Immortal Technique, Akua Wilder, Hasan Salaam, Jean Grae, Krystl Yardon, Mas D, Mojo and Veks One. "Politricks" was released as a single on July 22, 2005. Akir
Akir (acronym for Always Keep It Real) is an American rapper, record producer, songwriter and activist. He is known for his complex lyrics and social-political content. Biography Akir first entered the hip hop scene as an on-air personality at the high school radio station, WNMH, from 1994 to 1996. In 1998, he ranked second out of 50 in Howard University's Verbal Armageddon, MC competition. Akir sought to improve his musical talent and began to focus on production. Collaborating with his brother and business partner SouthPaw, he co-produced one track on Immortal Technique's '' Revolutionary Vol. 1''. Soon after, Akir released his first song, "Best Friend", on DJ N'finite's mix CD, ''The Blockbuster Vol. 1'', through his own production company, One Enterprises. Hip-hop
Hip-hop or hip hop (originally disco rap) is a popular music genre that emerged in the early 1970s from the African-American community of New York City. The style is characterized by its synthesis of a wide range of musical techniques. Hip-hop includes rapping often enough that the terms can be used synonymously. However, "hip-hop" more properly denotes an entire subculture. Other key markers of the genre are the disc jockey, turntablism, scratching, beatboxing, and instrumental tracks. Felipe Andres Coronel (born February 19, 1978), known artistically as Immortal Technique, is an American rapper, activist and songwriter. His lyrics are largely commentary on issues such as politics, religion, institutional racism, and government conspiracies. Immortal Technique seeks to retain control over his production, and has stated in his music that record companies, not artists themselves, profit the most from mass production and marketing of music. Hasan Salaam (born January 12, 1981) is an American rapper and sex educator born in New York City and raised in New Jersey. Tsidi Ibrahim (born November 26, 1976), known professionally as Jean Grae, is a multidisciplinary artist and writer. She emerged in New York City's underground hip-hop scene and developed an international following. Abiodun Oyewole
Abiodun Oyewole (born Charles Davis, February 1948), is a poet, teacher and member of the African-American music and spoken-word group The Last Poets, which developed into what is considered to be the first hip hop group. Critic Jason Ankeny wrote, "With their politically charged raps, taut rhythms, and dedication to raising African-American consciousness, the Last Poets almost single-handedly laid the groundwork for the emergence of hip-hop."
