Romana Barrack (5 August 1928 – 31 May 2016), known professionally as Carla Lane, was an English television writer responsible for several successful British sitcoms, including ''The Liver Birds'' (co-creator, 1969–1979), ''Butterflies'' (1978–1983), and '' Bread'' (1986–1991). Lane was described as "the television writer who dared to make women funny"; much of her work focused on strong women characters, including "frustrated housewives and working class matriarchs". In later years, she became well known as an animal welfare advocate. Early life and education Lane was born in West Derby, Liverpool, in the United Kingdom on 5 August 1928. Keith Barron (8 August 1934 – 15 November 2017) was an English actor and television presenter who appeared in films and on television from 1961 until 2017. His television roles included the police drama '' The Odd Man'', the sitcom '' Duty Free'', and Gregory Wilmot in ''Upstairs, Downstairs''. Susan Hampshire, Lady Kulukundis, (born 12 May 1937) is an English actress known for her many television and film roles. A three-time Emmy Award winner, she won for ''The Forsyte Saga (1967 series), The Forsyte Saga'' in 1970, ''The First Churchills'' in 1969, and for ''Vanity Fair (1967 TV serial), Vanity Fair'' in 1973. BBC Two
BBC Two is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network owned and operated by the BBC. Elizabeth Bradley (20 May 1922 – 30 October 2000) was an English actress, perhaps most famous for playing battle-axe Maud Grimes in the fictional soap ''Coronation Street''. Early life Bradley was born Joan Abraham in Macclesfield, Cheshire, the daughter of a senior civil servant, and took her father's middle name as her stage surname. Richard Evelyn Vernon (7 March 1925 – 4 December 1997) was a British actor. He appeared in many feature films and television programmes, often in aristocratic or supercilious roles. Prematurely balding and greying, Vernon settled into playing archetypal middle-aged lords and military types while still in his 30s.
