Pasquale Anfossi
Pasquale Anfossi (5 April 1727 – February 1797) was an Italian opera composer. Born in Taggia, Liguria, he studied with Niccolò Piccinni and Antonio Sacchini, and worked mainly in London, Venice and Rome. He wrote more than 80 operas, both ''opera seria'' and ''opera buffa'', although he concentrated on church music, especially oratorios, during his last years. Anfossi died in Rome in 1797. Career Aiming at first to become a performer, he studied violin at the Neapolitan Loreto Conservatorium from 1744 to 1752, and played in an opera orchestra for ten years. He then turned to composing, studying with Sacchini and Piccinni. The first performance of his own work, the ''opera buffa'' ''La Serva Spiritosa'' was at the Rome Carnival in 1763, though his authorship of the work was not clearly established at the time. Giuseppe Petrosellini
Giuseppe Petrosellini (29 November 1727 – 1799) was an Italian poet and prolific librettist working primarily in the ''dramma giocoso'' and ''opera buffa'' genres. Petrosellini was born in Corneto, Papal State (now Tarquinia, Lazio) and spent most of life in Rome at the Papal Court where he held the title of "Abate". He was also a member of several ''accademie'' (learned societies), most notably the Accademia degli Arcadi for whom he wrote under the pseudonym "Enisildo Prosindio". Amongst his most well-known libretti is Paisiello's ''Il barbiere di Siviglia''. ''La finta giardiniera'', set by Pasquale Anfossi in 1774 and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1775, has been ascribed to him, but it is questionable whether it is in his style. Calzabigi
Ranieri de' Calzabigi (; 23 December 1714 – July 1795) was an Italian poet and librettist, most famous for his collaboration with the composer Christoph Willibald Gluck on his "reform" operas. Born in Livorno, Calzabigi spent the 1750s in Paris, where he became a close friend of Giacomo Casanova. Here he explored his interest in opera, producing an edition of the works of Pietro Metastasio, the most famous librettist of opera seria. However, Calzabigi was also impressed by French tragédie en musique, and eager to reform Italian opera by making it simpler and more dramatically effective. In 1761 he settled in Vienna, where he met likeminded reformers: Gluck; Count Giacomo Durazzo, the theatre director; Gasparo Angiolini, the choreographer; Giovanni Maria Quaglio, the set designer; and the castrato Gaetano Guadagni. Rudolph Angermüller
Rudolph Angermüller (born 2 September 1940) is a German musicologist, who rendered great services to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Mozart studies in particular. Life Born in near Bielefeld, Angermüller took classes in piano, double bass and music theory at the Fösterling-Konservatorium in Bielefeld. He obtained his Abitur in 1961. From 1961 to 1970 he studied musicology, Romance studies and history at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster, and the University of Salzburg, with Arnold Schmitz, Günther Massenkeil, Hellmut Federhofer and Gerhard Croll. Teatro Delle Dame
The Teatro delle Dame, also known as the Teatro Alibert (its original name), was a theatre in Rome built in 1718 and located on what is now the corner of Via D'Alibert and Via Margutta. In the course of its history it underwent a series of reconstructions and renovations until it was definitively destroyed by a fire in 1863. La Finta Giardiniera
' ("The Pretend Garden-Girl"), K. 196, is an Italian-language opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart wrote it in Munich in January 1775 when he was 18 years old and it received its first performance on 13 January at the in Munich. There is debate over the authorship of the libretto, written for Anfossi's opera the year before. It is often ascribed to Calzabigi, but some musicologists now attribute it to Giuseppe Petrosellini, though again it is questioned whether it is in the latter's style. In 1780 Mozart converted the opera into a German Singspiel called ''Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe'' (also ''Die verstellte Gärtnerin''), which involved rewriting some of the music. Until a copy of the complete Italian version was found in the 1970s, the German translation was the only known complete score.
