Kamichetty Venugopala Rao Naidou
Kamisetty Venugopala Rao Naidu (also spelled as Kamichetty Venougopala Rao Naidu) was Mayor and MLA of Yanaon during French rule in first half of 20th century. He is known as ''The Grand Old Man of Yanaon''. He was one of the two powerful political leaders in Yanam during French rule. His opponent was Bezawada Bapa Naidou, the first mayor of Yanam. After death of Bapa Naidou, he became Mayor of Yanam (Maire de Yanaon) and even his family became very dominant in Yanam politics for at least 50 years thence. Legacy of Kamisetty family He was hornoured with ''Grade de chevalier'' in 1931. His son's wife Kamichetty Savithiry became Conseiller Municipal from Kankalapet and later became MLA of Yanam. It was told that after MLA elections, she and Yerra Jaganatha Rao got same votes, so they kept lottery and she won it. Yanaon or Yanam was one of the five principal settlements of French India between 1731 and 1954. Early years Reason for European interests The French in their earlier records do mention of their interest in establishing trade in the Northern Circars, which lie in the coastal regions of Hyderabad sultanate. Bouloussou Soubramaniam Sastroulou
Bouloussou Soubramaniom Sastroulou (''Bulusu Subrahmaṇya Śāstrulu''; 1866 – 13 September 1941) was Diwan, Conseiller local and Judge Advocate during French colonial rule in Yanam in the early 20th century. Birth Soubramaniom Sastroulou was born in Yanam in 1866 and was raised by his maternal grandmother, Veerubhotla Mahalakshmamma (వీరుభొట్ల మహలక్ష్మమ్మ ''Vīrubhoţla Mahalakṣhmamma''). He was born to Bouloussou Zagannadha Sastroulou (జగన్నాథశాస్త్రులు ''Jagannāthaśāstrulu'') through his second wife, Boulousou Vincatanarasamma (వెంకటనరసమ్మ ''Věnkaţanarsamma''). Dadala Raphael Ramanayya (30 June 1908 – 5 May 1991) was an Indian nationalist leader who was instrumental in the merger of the French India, French territory of Yanam, French India, Yanam into the Republic of India. Early life Ramanayya was born into a poor family from Farampeta, a tiny hamlet about two kilometers from Yanam. His father, Dadala Bhairvaswamy, was a farm worker; his mother's name was Ramanamma. Yanam Municipality
Yanam Municipality (''Municipalité de Yanaon'') was created by a French Metropolitan Decree dated 12 March 1880. Yanaon municipality had 12 seats (''Sièges''). Citizens from each ward elect one representative for Yanam Municipal Council (''Conseil Municipal de Yanaon)''. The term of office is six years. A French Metropolitan Decree, dated 12 March 1880 adopted a six-year term of office for Mayors (''Maire''), municipal councillors (''Conseil municipaux'') and commune panchayats (''commune (France), communes'').
