KCAU-TV (channel 9) is a television station in Sioux City, Iowa, United States, affiliated with ABC and owned by Nexstar Media Group. The station's studios are located on Gordon Drive in Sioux City, and its transmitter is located near Hinton, Iowa. The first television station in the region, the station began broadcasting as CBS affiliate KVTV in 1953. It was acquired in 1965 by a company that became known as Forward Communications; under Forward stewardship, the station activated a tower, changed its call sign to KCAU-TV and its affiliation to ABC in 1967, and became the leading station in the market through the 1980s. Nationwide Communications Inc., originally known as Peoples Broadcasting Corporation, was a media subsidiary of the Nationwide Insurance Company, which operated from 1946 until 1997. Based in Columbus, Ohio, Nationwide Communications owned and operated a variety of radio and television stations across the United States until it sold off all its radio stations to Cincinnati-based Jacor for a reported $620 million, and its television stations to Young Broadcasting. ''Canyon Kid's Corner'' was an American live children's television series, airing on KCAU-TV in Sioux City, Iowa, from 1953 to 1985. The show was one of the two pioneers of children's programming in Iowa. Format ''Canyon Kid's Corner'' was hosted by Jim Henry, who worked on the show for 32 years; Henry once explained that the show was intended as both entertainment and instruction for children, teaching them to "get some sense of how to live right" through principles like respecting one's parents and kindness to one's friends. Anywhere from 15 to 20 children would be featured live on the show. During the show's first month, Henry wore a cowboy hat and a tie. Owned by Gray Television, the station has studios on Signal Hill Drive in Sioux City, and its transmitter is located near Hinton, Iowa. WNAX (570 AM) is a radio station in Yankton, South Dakota, currently owned by Saga Communications, Inc., which broadcasts a news/talk format. WNAX broadcasts at 5,000 watts around the clock from a tower in eastern Yankton. Due to its location near the bottom of the AM dial, transmitter power, and South Dakota's flat land (with near-perfect ground conductivity) the station's 5,000-watt signal provides at least secondary coverage during the day to most of the eastern half of South Dakota, much of western Iowa, and most of the densely populated portion of Nebraska. In addition to its home markets of Sioux City and Sioux Falls, WNAX provides a strong grade B signal to Omaha and Lincoln.
