Kavi Subhash Metro Station
Kavi Subhash (formerly known as New Garia) is the at-grade southern terminus and interchange metro station of the North-South corridor ( Blue Line) and Bypass Corridor ( Orange Line) of Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is named after poet Subhash Mukhopadhyay. This station was opened to public on the auspicious day of Mahalaya in 2010. This metro station is at ground level and located adjacent to New Garia railway station on the Sealdah - Sonarpur section. After a lot of hardships and developmental work, the Kavi Subhash– Hemanta Mukhopadhyay section of Orange Line was inaugurated on 6 March 2024. New Garia or ''Nabagaria'' is neighborhood of South Kolkata in South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is bounded by Chak Garia and Panchasayar to the north, Baishnabghata-Patuli and Briji to the west, Garia railway station and Kamalgazi to the south and Nayabad and Sreenagar to the east. VIP Road
VIP Road (officially Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue) is a major thoroughfare connecting the city of Kolkata with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Dumdum/Kolkata Airport. Located in the North-Eastern outskirts of the city, it was built in 1962 to provide speedy connection with the city and its sole airport. VIP Road is part of State Highway 3 (West Bengal), State Highway 3. To reduce traffic jams especially in the crossings of Kestopur and Baguiati, a flyover is constructed over the stretch between Dum Dum Park and Raghunathpur, which opened in March 2015. Subhash Mukhopadhyay (poet)
Subhash Mukhopadhyay (; 12 February 1919 – 8 July 2003) was one of the foremost Indian Bengali poets of the 20th century. He is also known as the "podatik kobi" ("foot-soldier poet") in the field of Bengali literature. A book of thirty of Subhash's best known poems in English translation, titled ' As Day is Breaking', was published in 2014 by Anjan Basu, a Bangalore-based writer/critic. The book includes a rather detailed introduction to the poet's work as well. He was honoured with Jnanpith Award in 1991.
