Karakattakkaran
''Karakattakkaran'' () is a 1989 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy dance film written and directed by Gangai Amaran. The film stars Ramarajan and debutant Kanaka, while Santhana Bharathi, Chandrasekhar, Goundamani, Senthil, Shanmugasundaram, Raja Bahadur, Gandhimathi and Kovai Sarala play supporting roles. It revolves around two karakattam dancers who fall in love with each other, but circumstances prevent them from confessing their love for one another. How they overcome these forms the rest of the story. The soundtrack was composed by Ilaiyaraaja and all the songs were well-received, in particular, "Maanguyilae Poonguyile". The film was released on 16 June 1989 and was a major commercial success, running for over a year in theatres, and won two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. Thillana Mohanambal
''Thillana Mohanambal'' () is a 1968 Indian Tamil-language romantic musical dance film written, directed and produced by A. P. Nagarajan. The film stars Sivaji Ganesan, Padmini and T. S. Balaiah, with A. V. M. Rajan, Nagesh and Manorama in supporting roles. It tells the story of Shanmugasundaram, a ''nadaswaram'' player who falls in love with Mohanambal, a ''Bharatanatyam'' dancer who reciprocates his feelings, but unfortunate circumstances and their egoistic nature prevents them from confessing their love for one another. How they overcome their self-created obstacles and those created by the people around them forms the rest of the story. Kanaka Mahalakshmi Devadoss, known Mononym, mononymously as Kanaka, is an Indian former actress who appeared in Tamil cinema, Tamil, Telugu cinema, Telugu and Malayalam cinema, Malayalam language films. ''Enga Ooru Pattukaran'' ( ) is a 1987 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film directed by Gangai Amaran. Gangai Amaran (born Amar Singh) is an Indian composer, playback singer, lyricist, actor, film director and a screenwriter in Tamil films. Personal life Gangai Amaran was born in Pannaipuram in Theni district, Tamil Nadu in December 1947, as the youngest son of Ramaswamy and Chinnathayi. Subramaniyan Karuppaiya (born 25 May 1939), known by his stage name Goundamani, is an Indian actor and comedian who works in Tamil cinema. He is known for his comic duo partnership in Tamil language, Tamil films with fellow actor Senthil. The pair dominated the Tamil industry as comedians in the 1980s and 90s. He was called Goundamani as a misconception by actor/director K. Bhagyaraj which he himself stated in an interview and the pseudonym stuck with him forever. Karakattam is an ancient folk dance of Tamil Nadu usually dedicated to goddess Mariamman. As per Tamil literature, the dance form originated from a mix of Bharatham and other folk dance forms. Periya Karuppu (1936 – 18 September 2012) was a Tamil film character artiste and folk singer who appeared in Tamil-language films. Film career PKT was part of the drama troupe floated by veteran Sankaradoss Swamigal more than fifty years ago. Like many actors of his era, he had made the grade to films as an actor after toiling hard on stage where he used to be quite popular for his acting as well as in singing many folk songs. His film career has spanned many decades in which he had starred in more than 200 films including a memorable role in Bharathiraaja's Mann Vasanai and in Gangai Amaren's Karagattakkaran which had memorable songs by Ilaiyaraaja.
