Norman Dawn
Norman O. Dawn (25 May 1884 – 2 February 1975) was an early American film director. He made several improvements on the matte shot to apply it to motion picture, and was the first director to use rear projection in film production. Dawn's innovations in glass and matte shots Dawn's first film ''Missions of California'' made extensive use of the glass shot, in which certain parts of the intended image are painted on a piece of glass and placed in between the camera and the live action. Many of the buildings which Dawn was filming were at least partially destroyed; by painting sections of roof or walls, the impression was made that the buildings were in fact, still whole. The main difference between the glass shot and the matte shot is that with a glass shot, all filming is done with a single exposure of film. Max Davidson (May 23, 1875 – September 4, 1950) was a German-American film actor known for his comedic Jewish persona during the silent film era. With a career spanning over thirty years, Davidson appeared in over 180 films. Career Born in Berlin to Jewish parents, Davidson emigrated to the United States in the 1890s where he began working in stock theater and vaudeville. He entered silent movies in 1912. He made a series of films featuring the character Izzy for Reliance Pictures Company in 1914. The films included ''Izzy Gets the Wrong Bottle'', ''Izzy and His Rival'', ''Izzy and the Diamond'', ''How Izzy Stuck to His Post'', ''How Izzy Was Saved'', ''Izzy, the Detective'', ''Izzy's Night Out'', ''Izzy, the Operator'', and ''Izzy and the Bandit''. Charles Reisner
Charles Francis Reisner (March 14, 1887 – September 24, 1962) was an American film director and actor of the 1920s and 1930s. The German-American directed over 60 films between 1920 and 1950 and acted in over 20 films between 1916 and 1929. He starred with Charlie Chaplin in ''A Dog's Life'' in 1918 and '' The Kid'' in 1921. He directed Buster Keaton (Keaton also co-directed it with him) in ''Steamboat Bill, Jr.'' (1928). During the late 1920s, through the 1940s, Reisner was under contract to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. In 1930, he directed '' Chasing Rainbows'', a musical which starred Bessie Love and Charles King. He directed '' The Big Store'' (1941), the Marx Brothers' last film for MGM. Reisner died of a heart attack in La Jolla, California in 1962 at the age of 75.
