Jordan Brown (Newfoundland And Labrador Politician)
Jordan Brown (born September 14, 1989) is a Canadian politician who was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2019 Newfoundland and Labrador general election. He represents the electoral district of Labrador West as a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party (NL NDP). He was re-elected in the 2021 provincial election. Brown trained as a welder in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and returned to Labrador City to work. In 2013 he helped restart the local Heritage Society. In 2014, he led a successful year-long campaign to have the Labrador flag recognized as the symbol of Labrador and flown at the land border crossings in Labrador and at government buildings. For his efforts in 2017 he was awarded the Labradorians' of Distinction Medal. In 2017, Brown unsuccessfully sought election to the Labrador City town council. The Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly is the unicameral deliberative assembly of the General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It meets in the Confederation Building in St. John's. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the King of Canada in Right of Newfoundland and Labrador, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. The governing party sits on the left side of the speaker of the House of Assembly as opposed to the traditional right side of the speaker. This tradition dates back to the 1850s as the heaters in the Colonial Building were located on the left side. Labrador Flag
The flag of Labrador, while unofficial, is used to represent Labrador, the continental region with adjacent islands of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador as distinct from the Newfoundland region of the province. Nick McGrath MHA is a Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. McGrath was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2011 provincial election and represented the electoral district of Labrador West. He lost re-election in the 2015 election. He previously served as Minister of Transportation and Works, Minister of Service NL and Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs. Before entering provincial politics McGrath was a town councillor in Labrador City, President of Combined Councils of Labrador, and a businessman in Labrador West. 2021 Newfoundland And Labrador General Election
The 2021 Newfoundland and Labrador general election was held on March 25, 2021, to elect members of the 50th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. Under the province's fixed election date law, the vote was tentatively scheduled for October 10, 2023, but a caveat in the law mandates that an election must be held within one year of a new Premier assuming office. Premier Furey assumed the role on August 19, 2020, and requested to Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote to issue the writs of election on January 15, 2021. However, an unexpected COVID-19 surge in the week leading up to the election caused voting to be delayed in the Avalon Peninsula, before all in-person voting was eventually cancelled, delaying the election for every district until March 1, 2021. Labrador City
Labrador City is a town in western Labrador (part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador), near the Quebec border. With a population of 7,412 as of 2021, it is the second-largest population centre in Labrador, behind Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Neighbouring Labrador City is Wabush, a smaller town with a population of approximately 1,964 as of 2021. Together, the "twin towns" are known as Labrador West.
