Joondalup Railway Line
The Joondalup line is a commuter rail service in Western Australia, linking the Perth central business district (CBD) with the metropolitan area's north-western suburbs. The service is operated on the Northern Suburbs Railway by Transperth Train Operations, a division of the Public Transport Authority, and is part of the Transperth network. It is long and serves 13 stations. The service is currently, , being extended to Yanchep as part of the Yanchep Rail Extension project, and may be renamed once the extension to Yanchep is completed. Construction of the infrastructure for the service began on 14 November 1989. It opened between Perth station and Joondalup station on 20 December 1992, albeit with only Perth, Leederville, Edgewater and Joondalup stations operational. Transperth B-series Train
The B-series trains are a class of electric multiple unit built by Downer Rail in Maryborough, Queensland for Transperth Train Operations, Transperth between 2004 and 2019. History Perth's first electrified trains, the two-carriage Transperth A-series train, A-Series, entered service in September 1991. The B-series trains are cleared to operate on the Midland line, Perth, Midland, Armadale and Thornlie railway lines, Armadale/Thornlie and Fremantle railway line, Fremantle lines and are regularly used on these lines alongside the older A-Series. However, not all stations on these lines are capable of handling six-car sets as the platforms are not long enough, so they are usually run as 3-car sets. Edgewater Railway Station
Edgewater railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Joondalup line, 23 kilometres from Perth station serving the suburb of Edgewater. History Edgewater station opened on 20 December 1992 in the median strip of the Mitchell Freeway. In 2003, the contract for extending the platforms on seven Joondalup line stations, including Edgewater station, was awarded to Lakis Constructions. The platforms on these stations had to be extended by to accommodate long six car trains, which were planned to enter service. Along with the extensions, the platform edges were upgraded to bring them into line with tactile paving standards. Edgewater was the second station to begin being extended, with work commencing in December 2003. Work at this station was completed by April 2004. In 2010, a new canopy replaced the original. Greenwood Railway Station
Greenwood railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Joondalup line, from Perth station serving the suburb of Greenwood. History The station was originally proposed as the Hepburn station under the Northern Suburbs Transit System Masterplan in 1989 to coincide with the Hepburn Heights development. The master plan placed the station as a future station until demand of the railway and suburbs warranted the construction of the station. After being promised a number of times but not delivered, construction finally began in 2004 with the aim of reducing peak demand at the nearby Warwick and Whitfords stations, opening on 29 January 2005. Services Greenwood station is served by Transperth Joondalup line services. Greenwood station saw 611,508 passengers in the 2013–14 financial year. Nowergup Railway Depot
Nowergup railway depot is a Transperth depot in the suburb of Nowergup, Western Australia History Nowergup depot was built to service the Transperth B-series electric multiple units that were ordered to operate service on the Joondalup line, It is owned by the Public Transport Authority and leased to Downer Rail / Bombardier Transportation as part of its contract to maintain the B-series trains. The depot was completed on 17 May 2004 and officially opened on 13 June 2004 by Premier Geoff Gallop and Planning & Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan. It was built at the end of a single track extension of the Joondalup line beyond its then terminus of Clarkson. The line has since been extended to Butler with the track duplicated. New MetroRail
New MetroRail was a division of the Public Transport Authority in Western Australia. It was responsible for managing extensions to Perth's railway network. The project doubled Perth's rail network, which is operated by Transperth, and was completed in 2007, after various projects were completed. Costing $1.6 billion, the project was the largest public transport project ever undertaken by the Western Australian government and effectively doubled the size of Perth's railway network. A similar agency Metronet was created in 2017 for future Perth rail extensions. Whitfords Railway Station
Whitfords railway station is a railway station located on the boundary of Padbury and Kingsley, suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. It is on the Joondalup railway line, which is part of the Transperth commuter rail network. It is located in the median of the Mitchell Freeway, and consists of an elevated bus interchange on top of an island platform at ground level. South of Whitfords, trains run every 5 minutes during peak. North of Whitfords, trains run every 10 minutes during peak. Between peak during the day, trains run every 15 minutes. Carmen Mary Lawrence (born 2 March 1948) is an Australian academic and former politician who was the Premier of Western Australia from 1990 to 1993, the first woman to become the premier of an Australian state. A member of the Labor Party, she later entered federal politics as a member of the House of Representatives from 1994 to 2007, and served as a minister in the Keating Government. Lawrence was born in Northam, Western Australia. She studied psychology at the University of Western Australia, obtaining a doctorate in 1983, and before entering politics worked as a lecturer and researcher. Peter Dowding
Peter McCallum Dowding SC (born 6 October 1943) is an Australian lawyer and former politician who served as the 24th Premier of Western Australia, from 25 February 1988 until his forced resignation on 12 February 1990. He was a member of parliament from 1980 to 1990. Dowding graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Laws, and he subsequently worked as a solicitor and barrister. In 1980, he was elected to the North Province of the Western Australian Legislative Council, representing the Labor Party. He entered cabinet when Labor won the 1983 state election, and changed ministries several times over the ensuing years due to cabinet reshuffles. Joondalup () is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, approximately north of Perth's central business district. It contains the central business district of the regional City of Joondalup and acts as the primary urban centre of Perth's outer northern suburbs. History During the latter part of the 1960s, the '' Metropolitan Regional Planning Authority'' developed the ''Corridor Plan for Perth'' which was published and adopted in 1970. The plan called for the creation of five "sub-regional" retail centres (Fremantle, Joondalup, Midland, Armadale and Rockingham) which would form the commercial and economic focus of each "node", and take the retail burden away from the CBD.
