John Stratford, 3rd Earl Of Aldborough
John Stratford, 3rd Earl of Aldborough (–1823) was an Irish peer and member of the House of Stratford. He was known as the Hon. John Stratford until 1801, when he inherited the Earldom from his brother Edward Stratford, 2nd Earl of Aldborough. Background He was the second son of John Stratford, 1st Earl of Aldborough, and his wife Martha O'Neale, daughter of the Venerable Benjamin O'Neale, of Mount Neale, County Carlow; sometime Archdeacon of Leighlin. Career In 1763, Stratford replaced his father as Member of Parliament (MP) for Baltinglass upon the latter's elevation to the peerage. He held this seat until 1777. In 1776, he was returned to the Irish House of Commons for Wicklow County, replacing Ralph Howard, who had left the House to be elevated to the peerage as Baron Clonmore, and chose to sit for Wicklow in preference to Baltinglass. John Rodney (of Armsworth)
Captain John Rodney (10 May 1765 – 9 April 1847) was a British naval officer, politician, serving as the member of parliament for Launceston (1790–1796) and public servant, serving as the third Colonial Secretary of Ceylon (1806–1833). John Rodney was born on 10 May 1765 the third son of Admiral George Brydges Rodney, 1st Baron Rodney and the eldest son to his second wife, Henrietta née Clies, the daughter of John Clies, a Portuguese businessman. In the first Parliament to be held after the Union of Great Britain and Ireland on 1 January 1801, the first House of Commons of the United Kingdom was composed of all 558 members of the former Parliament of Great Britain and 100 of the members of the House of Commons of Ireland. The Parliament of Great Britain had held its last general election in 1796 and last met on 5 November 1800. The final general election for the Parliament of Ireland had taken place in 1797, although by-elections had continued to take place until 1800. Warden Flood (1735 – March 1797) was an Irish politician. He sat in the Irish House of Commons for nearly 30 years, as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Longford Borough from 1776 to 1783, for Carysfort from 1776 to 1783, for Baltinglass from 1783 to 1790, and for Taghmon from 1790 until his death in 1797. Godfrey Lill (born 1719, died 1783 in Enniskillen) was an Irish politician, Solicitor-General for Ireland, and judge of the Court of Common Pleas (Ireland). He became the Member of Parliament for Fore in 1761 and Baltinglass in 1768. He was appointed as Solicitor-General in 1770, and a judge of the Court of Common Pleas in 1774. Benjamin O'Neale Stratford, 4th Earl of Aldborough (1746 – 11 July 1833) styled The Honourable from 1763 until 1823, was an Irish peer and politician of the noble House of Stratford. He was the fourth son of John Stratford, 1st Earl of Aldborough and his wife Martha O'Neale, daughter of Venerable Benjamin O'Neale, Archdeacon of Leighlin, and a younger brother of Edward Stratford, 2nd Earl of Aldborough. In 1823, he succeeded his older brother John as earl. In 1777, Aldborough entered the Irish House of Commons for Baltinglass, the same constituency his father and his older brother has represented before, and sat as Member of Parliament until 1783. In 1790, he stood again for Baltinglass and was returned for it until the Act of Union in 1801. He was Governor of County Wicklow in 1777. Lieutenant General Harry Hammon Lyster VC, CB (24 December 1830 – 1 February 1922) was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Details He was 27 years old and a lieutenant in the 72nd Bengal Native Infantry, Bengal Army, during the Indian Mutiny when the following deed took place, for which he was awarded the VC.
