John Osborn (tenor)
John Osborn (born May 16, 1972) is an American operatic tenor. He is particularly associated with the bel canto repertoire, especially the works of Rossini, and roles in French Grand Opera. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa, and studied music at Simpson College. He made his professional debut in ''The Saint of Bleecker Street'' at the Des Moines Metro Opera in 1993. Osborn was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 1994 at the age of 21. He made his Met debut in ''Salome'' in 1996, and has subsequently sung the roles of Don Ottavio in ''Don Giovanni'' and Count Almaviva in ''The Barber of Seville'', Goffredo in ''Armida'', Rodrigo di Dhu in ''La donna del lago'', and Arnold Melchtal in ''Guillaume Tell'' with the company. Sir Antonio Pappano (born 30 December 1959) is an English-Italian conductor and pianist. He is currently music director of the Royal Opera House and of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. He is scheduled to become chief conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra in 2024. Early life Pappano was born in Epping, Essex. Pappano's family had relocated to England from Castelfranco in Miscano near Benevento, Italy, in 1958, and at the time of his birth his parents worked in the restaurant business. His father, Pasquale Pappano, was by vocation a singing teacher. When Pappano was 13 years old, he moved with his family to Connecticut. Benvenuto Cellini (opera)
''Benvenuto Cellini '' is an opera semiseria in four ''tableaux'' (spread across two or three acts) by Hector Berlioz, his first full-length work for the stage. Premiered at the Académie Royale de Musique (Salle Le Peletier) on 10 September 1838, it is a setting of a libretto by Léon de Wailly and Henri Auguste Barbier who were inspired by the memoirs of the titular Florentine sculptor but who invented most of the plot. The opera is technically challenging and was until the 21st century rarely performed. ''Manon'' () is an ''opéra comique'' in five acts by Jules Massenet to a French libretto by Henri Meilhac and Philippe Gille, based on the 1731 novel '' L'histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut'' by the Abbé Prévost. Arena di Verona Festival (Verona Arena Festival) is a summer festival of opera, located in the city of Verona Italy. ''Otello'' is an opera in three acts by Gioachino Rossini to an Italian libretto by after William Shakespeare's play '' Othello, or The Moor of Venice''; it was premiered in Naples, Teatro del Fondo, 4 December 1816. The plot of the libretto differs greatly from Shakespeare's play in that it takes place wholly in Venice, not mainly on Cyprus, and the dramatic conflict develops in a different manner.
