John Ferris (Ontario Politician)
John P. Ferris (June 29, 1933 - September 27, 2015) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1975 to 1977 who represented the central Ontario riding of London South. He was also a long time school board trustee who served as chair of London school boards in 1975 and again in 1986. Background Ferris was raised in London, Ontario and graduated from Catholic Central High School. He was an employee of London Life Insurance before becoming a school trustee in 1971. He was married to Joan for 56 years and together they raised three children. Politics In 1971, he became a school board trustee out of concern for separate school funding. He said, "There was an argument going on about the continuation of separate schools. What would happen with my own kids was a concern." Gordon Wayne Walker , (born September 10, 1941) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1971 to 1975, and again from 1977 to 1985. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party, and served as a cabinet minister in the governments of William Davis and Frank Miller. Background Walker was born in St. Thomas, Ontario and educated at the University of Western Ontario. He worked as a lawyer, and served as an alderman in the City of London from 1967 to 1971. London (pronounced ) is a city in southwestern Ontario, Canada, along the Quebec City–Windsor Corridor. The city had a population of 422,324 according to the 2021 Canadian census. 1977 Ontario General Election
The 1977 Ontario general election was held on June 9, 1977, to elect the 125 members of the 31st Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The Progressive Conservative Party, led by Premier Bill Davis, was re-elected for an eleventh consecutive term in office, again with a minority in the legislature. The PCs won an additional seven seats, but were not able to win a majority. The Liberal Party, led by Dr. Stuart Smith, lost one seat compared to its result in the previous election, but formed the Official Opposition because the NDP lost more seats. The New Democratic Party, led by Stephen Lewis, lost five seats, and losing the status of Official Opposition to the Liberals.
