John Brown (Australian Footballer, Born 1923)
John Brown (14 October 1923 – 22 May 2007) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Edward Valentine Brown (1891–1957), and Lucy Catherine Brown (1891–1980), née Miller, and the brother of Edward Vincent Brown (1922–1989), John Brown was born on 14 October 1923. His father, known as "Ted" Brown, played VFL football with St Kilda in 1911, and with Carlton from 1914 to 1920. His older brother, known as "Vin" Brown, played for Carlton from 1941 to 1948. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Percy James Beames (27 July 1911 – 28 March 2004) was an Australian sportsman who played Australian rules football for the Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) as well as first-class cricket for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield. He later became one of Melbourne's most distinguished sports journalists, covering cricket and Australian rules football for ''The Age'' until 1976. When the Australian Football Hall of Fame was established in 1996, Beames was among the inaugural inductees, and was also named in the forward pocket when Melbourne's Team of the Century was named in June 2000. The Ballarat Football League (BFL) is an Australian rules football competition that operates in the Ballarat region of Victoria, Australia. The competition formed in 1893 as the Ballarat Football Association and was renamed Ballarat Football League in 1908 and was briefly known as the Ballarat-Wimmera Football League between 1934 and 1936. The East Ballarat Football Club was an Australian rules football club which competed in the Ballarat Football League. First formed in 1885 the club remained a junior club in their district, their senior club being Ballarat Imperial Football Club. The 1955 VFL season was the 59th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 16 April until 17 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. Princes Park (stadium)
Princes Park (or Carlton Recreation Ground, currently known by its sponsored name Ikon Park) is an Australian rules football ground located inside the wider Princes Park in the inner Melbourne suburb of Carlton North. It is a historic venue, having been the home ground of the Carlton Football Club since early in its history.
