Joe Oros
Joseph E. Oros Jr. ( ro, Oroș; June 15, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio – August 2, 2012) was an automobile stylist for Ford Motor Company over a period of 21 years — known as the Chief Designer of the team at Ford that styled the original Mustang, and for his contributions to the 1955 Ford Thunderbird. Oros was also an artist, sculptor, painter and industrial designer, having designed appliances and other products. Oros was born to non-English speaking Romanian parents, originating in Transylvania. He was moved up a grade from 3rd to 5th because of his fantastic art work even though his math and science skills were questionable. Oros died on August 2, 2012 at the age of 96. He lived in Santa Barbara, California with his wife Betty Thatcher Oros, the first female automotive designer, until her death in 2001. Eugene Bordinat
Eugene Bordinat Jr. (February 10, 1920 – August 11, 1987) was a Ford Motor Company styling executive whose career spanned several decades. Early career Bordinat was educated at the Cranbrook Academy of Art and the University of Michigan. He joined General Motors in 1939 as a trainee. During World War II he was a supervisor at Fisher Body for tank production, and later served in the United States Army Air Forces. Bordinat briefly returned to work at GM as a senior stylist after the war. Ford career Bordinat joined Ford in 1947, quitting General Motors. He supervised styling at the Lincoln-Mercury division, influencing the implementation of many automotive designs. Bordinat was promoted to vice president for styling and a chief designer in 1961, the successor to George W. Walker. He ultimately served 19 years, longer than anyone in Ford Styling before or since. Betty Thatcher Oros
Betty Thatcher Oros (born Elizabeth Anna Thatcher, April 18, 1917, Elyria, OhioAugust 19, 2001) was an American automobile designer. Education Betty Thatcher Oros graduated from Elyria High School in 1935. She attended the Cleveland School of Arts, today’s Cleveland Institute of Art. She majored in Industrial Design, graduating with honors. Work at Hudson Hudson Motor Company was among the first automotive companies to employ women designers full-time. They wanted a woman to contribute a female point of view to automotive design, hired Oros as the first female American automotive designer in 1939. Oros designed the 1939 Hudson Big Boy truck that was based on the Hudson Commodore sedan, but "turned it into a beautifully streamlined pickup." Lincoln Motor Company, or simply Lincoln, is the luxury vehicle division of American automobile manufacturer Ford.
