Jamiroquai – Live At Montreux 2003
''Jamiroquai – Live at Montreux 2003'' is a DVD/Blu-ray of a concert performed by the British band Jamiroquai at the 2003 Montreux Jazz Festival. The DVD was released on 1 October 2007 through Eagle Vision, a distributor also related to other DVD releases of Montreux Jazz Festival performances, and the same distributor later published the HD Blu-ray version on 4 August 2009. While the concert had previously been bootlegged in whole by fans, this disc is the first official release of the concert's recording. While the DVD and Blu-ray features all of the tracks from the festival (including the notoriously rare "Shoot the Moon"), it also features a 12-minute live version of " Space Cowboy", recorded at the same jazz festival, albeit in 1995. Jamiroquai
Jamiroquai () are an English funk and acid jazz band from London. Formed in 1992, they are fronted by vocalist Jay Kay, and were prominent in the London-based funk and acid jazz movement of the 1990s. They built on their acid jazz sound in their early releases and later drew from rock, disco, electronic and Latin music genres. Lyrically, the group has addressed social and environmental justice. Kay has remained as the only original member through several line-up changes. The band made their debut under Acid Jazz Records but subsequently found mainstream success under Sony. While under this label, three of their albums have charted at number one in the UK, including '' Emergency on Planet Earth'' (1993), '' Synkronized'' (1999) and '' A Funk Odyssey'' (2001). "High Times" is a song by British funk- acid jazz band Jamiroquai, released as the fourth and final single from their third studio album, ''Travelling Without Moving'' (1996). Released on 1 December 1997, the song peaked at number 20 on the UK Singles Chart, and reached the top 10 on both the American and Canadian dance charts. Background The song was written by Jason Kay. The song begins with the quote "You don't need a name in bright lights, you're a rock star. In some tinfoil, with a glass pipe, is your guitar." This refers to crack cocaine. Cocaine and many other drugs are referenced in the song, all in a negative light, but it is jet lag that is the main reference during the chorus: "Last night, turned to daylight, and a minute became a day", a desynchronosis that is often caused when travelling around the world during the tours. Nick Fyffe
Nick Fyffe (born 14 October 1972) is an English bassist, known for being an ex-bassist of English funk group Jamiroquai. He replaced Stuart Zender in 1999 with the release of the album ''Synkronized''. He was in the process of applying to a Jamiroquai tribute band when he got the offer to join Jamiroquai. Fyffe recorded and toured with the band until his departure in 2003. Since his departure from Jamiroquai, Fyffe has been lecturing at various colleges and playing with the English electronic group The Shapeshifters as well as blues rock band The Temperance Movement, whose self-titled first album was released on 16 September 2013. Matt Johnson (born 3 February 1969) is a British keyboardist who plays for the funk and jazz band Jamiroquai. Biography Johnson was aged one and a half when he started playing the piano at his family home. "My dad was a musician, so there was always music playing in the house; but I remember being taught by a scary old piano teacher, who must have been over 90 years old". His influences range from Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis through to Squarepusher. Before playing in Jamiroquai, Johnson was a writer and performer for bands Sunray—with whom Kym Mazelle recorded a cover of "Perhaps"—and Nu Hope. Jay Kay (born Jason Luís Cheetham; 30 December 1969) is an English singer and songwriter. He is best known as the co-founder and lead vocalist of the acid jazz and funk band Jamiroquai, which was formed in 1992. Early life Jay Kay was born Jason Luís Cheetham in Stretford on 30 December 1969, the son of English cabaret singer Karen Kay and Portuguese guitarist Luís Saraiva.
