Jack Harris (American Football)
Welton John "Jack" Harris (September 29, 1902 – December 28, 1973) was a player in the National Football League. Harris was born on September 29, 1902 in Jackson, Michigan. He attended high school in Racine, Wisconsin and played at the collegiate level at the University of Wisconsin. Harris played with the Green Bay Packers for two seasons. He was captain of the 1924 Wisconsin team. In his final game for Wisconsin, against Chicago, he gained more yards rushing, 193, than the whole Chicago team. Fullback (American Football)
A fullback (FB) is a position in the offensive backfield in gridiron football, and is one of the two running back positions along with the halfback. Fullbacks are typically larger than halfbacks and in most offensive schemes the fullback's duties are split among power running, pass catching, and blocking for both the quarterback and the other running back. Many great runners in the history of American football have been fullbacks, including Jim Brown, Marion Motley, Bronko Nagurski, Jim Taylor, Franco Harris, Larry Csonka, John Riggins, Christian Okoye, and Levi Jackson. Chicago Maroons Football
The Chicago Maroons football team represents the University of Chicago in college football. The Maroons, which play in NCAA Division III, have been a football-only member of the Midwest Conference since 2017. The University of Chicago was a founding member of the Big Ten Conference and the Maroons were coached by Amos Alonzo Stagg for 41 seasons. In 1935, halfback Jay Berwanger became the first recipient of the Downtown Athletic Club Trophy, later known as the Heisman Trophy. In the late 1930s, university president Robert Maynard Hutchins decided that big-time college football and the university's commitment to academics were not compatible. The university abolished its football program in 1939 and withdrew from the Big Ten in 1946. The 1924 Wisconsin Badgers football team was an American football team that represented the University of Wisconsin in the 1924 Big Ten Conference football season. The team compiled a 2–3–3 record (0–2–2 against conference opponents), finished in last place in the Big Ten Conference, and was outscored by opponents by a combined total of 94 to 66. John J. Ryan was in his second year as Wisconsin's head coach. Jack Harris was the team captain. Guard Adolph Bieberstein was selected by ''All-Sports Magazine'' as a third-team player on its 1924 College Football All-America Team. Jackson, Michigan
Jackson is the only city and county seat of Jackson County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 33,534, down from 36,316 at the 2000 census. Located along Interstate 94 and U.S. Route 127, it is approximately west of Ann Arbor and south of Lansing. Jackson is the core city of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Jackson County and population of 160,248. Founded in 1829, it was named after President Andrew Jackson.
