Jon Kaplan (composer)
Jonathan Z. "Jon" Kaplan (born April 6, 1976) and Alexander "Al" Kaplan (born July 23, 1978) are brothers who are American composers, lyricists and comedy writers. They are best known for creating the musical '' Silence! The Musical'', a parody of the film '' The Silence of the Lambs'', which began life on the internet in 2002 before becoming a successful stage musical starting in 2005. They have also created musical parodies of other films and television shows, including various Arnold Schwarzenegger films such as ''Conan the Barbarian'', ''Predator'' and ''Commando''. Jon and Al scored and co-wrote the films '' Zombeavers'' (2014) and ''The Drone'' (2019), along with the Shudder series '' Critters: A New Binge'' (2019). Jon Kaplan (1947–2017) was a Canadian theatre critic. He was the senior theatre writer at '' NOW Magazine''. Early life and education Kaplan grew up in Florida. He graduated from Brandeis University in 1969 with a degree in English before moving to Canada. He later received a master's degree in English from York University York University (), also known as YorkU or simply YU), is a public university, public research university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is Canada's third-largest university, and it has approximately 53,500 students, 7,000 faculty and staff, .... His thesis was on Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre. Career Kaplan began his career as a theatre critic in Toronto in the 1970s writing reviews for '' The Body Politic''. A few years later, he began working for '' NOW Magazine''. Jon Kaplan is an American Grammy Award winning mixer and record producer. He began his career as the bassist for The Hatters (1992–1995), a New York-based jam band signed to Atlantic Records. Upon the dissolution of The Hatters, Kaplan began work as an audio engineer, mixer, and producer. His credits include Sara Bareilles, Gavin DeGraw, Parachute, and Ingrid Michaelson, with Grammy nominations for his work with the reggae band, SOJA, and Contemporary Christian Contemporary history, in English-language historiography, is a subset of modern history that describes the historical period from about 1945 to the present.
