John MacDonald Of Glenaladale
John MacDonald of Glenaladale (September 29, 1742 – December 28, 1810) was a Scottish-born soldier, land owner and colonizer. He played an important role in bringing Scottish settlers to Prince Edward Island, Canada. The son of Alexander M’Donald of Glenaladale (often spelt Glenalladale), the head of the Glenaladale branch of the Clan Macdonald of Clanranald, and Margaret MacDonell of Scotus, he was born at Glenaladale and studied at the Catholic seminary at Regensburg. After his return to Scotland in 1761, he became the 8th laird of Glenaladale. Dissatisfied with his situation in Scotland, in 1771 he mortgaged his lands in Scotland to his cousin and purchased Lot 36 on St. John's Island (later Prince Edward Island) from the Lord Advocate Sir James Montgomery. Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island is an island Provinces and territories of Canada, province of Canada. While it is the smallest province by land area and population, it is the most densely populated. Walter Patterson ( – 6 September 1798) was the first British colonial Governor of Prince Edward Island. Birth and life in the military The son of William Patterson of Foxhall, near Ramelton, County Donegal, and Elizabeth, daughter of William Thornton Todd of Buncrana Castle, County Donegal. He was a first cousin of Isaac Todd. Patterson joined the British Army early in life, participating in the Seven Years' War with the 80th Regiment of Light-Armed Foot. Tracadie, Prince Edward Island
Tracadie is a Canadian rural community in Queens County, Prince Edward Island. It is located southwest of Mount Stewart. The name Tracadie, which is of Mi'kmaq origin, means "ideal camping location" and is pronounced tǔlakǎdǐk. This community is located on the scenic north shore of P.E.I., on Tracadie Bay and is also close to the Hillsborough River. It is largely a farming community and there are also mussel farms found in Tracadie Bay. The heart of the community contains a community centre, elementary school, Catholic church, ball diamond, outdoor rink and a seniors housing complex. Tracadie is close to Charlottetown, the cultural hub of P.E.I. Every summer in August, the community celebrates Tracadie Days. The Legislative Council of Prince Edward Island was the upper house of the General Assembly of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. It existed from 1773 to 1893.
