Italy Women's National Softball Team
Italy women's national softball team is one of the top-ranked softball teams in Europe. The Italian team has won the Women's Softball European Championship and record twelve times. Their latest European title came in 2021. In 2019, the Italian team won the WBSC Olympic Softball Qualifier by beating all five opponents and eventually qualified for the Olympic tournament in Tokyo. Softball At The 2004 Summer Olympics
Softball at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held at the Olympic Softball Stadium in the Helliniko Olympic Complex from August 14 to 23. The United States (USA) won the gold while Australia (AUS) took silver and Japan (JPN) got bronze. It was one of the three sports at the Athens Olympics that was for women only along with Synchronized Swimming and Rhythmic Gymnastics. Eight teams competed for the gold medal in only the third appearance of the sport at the Summer Olympics. Final results for the Softball competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics: Medals Schedule Starting 17 September, there will be four preliminary games each day until 23 September for a total of 28 games. Two semi-final games played 25 September, with the game for third place same day. The final game for the gold medal played on 26 September at 7:30 pm local time. Competition format Eight teams competed in the Olympic softball tournament, and the competition consisted of two rounds. The preliminary round followed a round robin format, where each of the teams played all the other teams once. Following this, the top four teams advanced to a Page playoff system round consisting of two semifinal games, and finally the bronze and gold medal games. Baseball is not a mandatory sport in the Summer Universiade. In 1993, the sport was held at the XVII Summer Universiade in Buffalo, USA, and it was staged two years later at the XVIII Summer Universiade in Fukuoka, Japan. The Women's Softball World Cup is a fastpitch softball tournament for women's national teams held historically every four years, now every two years, by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). The tournament, originally known as the ''ISF Women's World Championship'', was sanctioned by the International Softball Federation (ISF) until that body's 2013 merger with the International Baseball Federation to create the WBSC. The World Baseball Softball Confederation Europe, known as WBSC Europe, was established on February 10th, 2018 during a Congress of the Confederation of European Baseball and the European Softball Federation in Val d’Europe, France. the establishment of WBSC Europe followed the historic merger of the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) and the European Softball Federation (ESF). As of September 2022, WBSC Europe counts 40 members for baseball and 39 for softball. The CEB was founded in 1953 with 5 members, which were Belgium, France, West Germany, Italy and Spain.
