Italian Americans ( it, italoamericani or ''italo-americani'', ) are Americans who have full or partial Italian ancestry. The largest concentrations of Italian Americans are in the urban Northeast and industrial Midwestern metropolitan areas, with significant communities also residing in many other major US metropolitan areas. Between 1820 and 2004 approximately 5.5 million Italians migrated from Italy to the United States, in several distinct waves, with the greatest number arriving in the 20th century from Southern Italy. Vincent "Chin" Gigante
Vincent Louis Gigante (; March 28, 1928 – December 19, 2005), also known as "The Chin", was an American mobster who was boss of the Genovese crime family in New York City from 1981 to 2005. Gigante started out as a professional boxer who fought in 25 matches between 1944 and 1947. He then started working as a Mafia enforcer for what was then the Luciano crime family, forerunner of the Genovese family. Gigante was one of five brothers; three of them, Mario, Pasquale, and Ralph, followed him into the Mafia. Only one brother, Louis, stayed out of the crime family, instead becoming a Catholic priest. Gigante was the shooter in the failed assassination of longtime Luciano boss Frank Costello in 1957. Lawrence Dentico
Lawrence John Dentico (born August 22, 1923), also known as "Larry Fab", "Little Larry" and "The Little Guy", is a New Jersey captain in the Genovese crime family and a former consigliere. Dentico was born in Seaside Park, New Jersey, the son of Vito Antonio Dentico and Rose. He is the brother of Joseph born November 5, 1898 in Gioia del Colle in the south Italian region of Apulia and is the brother-in-law to Theresa Romano, the wife of his brother Joseph. James Ida
James Ida also known as "Little Guy" (born 1940) is an American mobster and former consigliere of the Genovese crime family. Ida was born to first generation immigrants from Lombardy. Growing up in the Little Italy neighborhood of Manhattan, New York, Ida was inducted into the Genovese crime family in the late 1970s. Ida was placed in the Little Italy-based crew of captain Matthew "Matty the Horse" Ianniello, frequently serving as Ianniello's bodyguard and chauffeur. Louis Manna
Louis Anthony "Bobby" Manna (born December 2, 1929, in Hoboken, New Jersey), is an American mobster and former consigliere of the Genovese crime family operating with the family's New Jersey faction. Genovese family Manna was a close associate of family boss Vincent "the Chin" Gigante; he rented an apartment in Greenwich Village, New York to be close to Gigante's headquarters at the Triangle Social Club. However, Manna's power base was in New Jersey. He is the brother-in-law of Genovese crime family mob associate Gerald Dirazzo. He supervised four caporegimes while also serving as consigliere. Michele Miranda
Michele "Big Mike" Miranda (July 26, 1896 – July 16, 1973) was a longtime member and eventual consigliere of the Genovese crime family and one of the most powerful New York gangsters in the 1950s and 1960s. Early years Born in San Giuseppe Vesuviano, Province of Naples, Miranda immigrated with his family to the United States in 1905 and settled in New York. In later years, Miranda's official residence was in Forest Hills, Queens. Becoming involved in crime as a teenager, his first arrest was for petty theft and assault in 1915. Saverio Santora
Saverio Santora (1935–1987), also known as "Sammy Black", was a New York mobster with the Genovese crime family who briefly served as family underboss. In the late 1970s, Santora took over as caporegime of Antonio "Buckaloo" Ferro's powerful 116th Street crew in the East Harlem section of Manhattan. Santora quickly became one of the most powerful captains in the family. The crew was involved in illegal gambling, bookmaking, loan sharking, heroin trafficking, and labor racketeering within the Carpenters' Union. Gerardo "Jerry" Catena (January 8, 1902 – April 23, 2000) was an American mobster and a top member of the Genovese crime family during the 1950s and 1960s, along with Thomas "Tommy Ryan" Eboli, Philip "Benny Squint" Lombardo and Michael "Big Mike" Miranda. Venero Mangano
Venero Frank "Benny Eggs" Mangano (September 7, 1921 – August 18, 2017) was the underboss of the Genovese crime family. In 1991, Mangano was convicted of one count of extortion and a related conspiracy count for rigging windows contracts, and in 1993, was sentenced to 15 years and eight months in prison and fined $100,000. He was released in 2006, and died of natural causes on August 18, 2017. Guarino "Willie" Moretti (February 24, 1894 – October 4, 1951), also known as Willie Moore, was a notorious underboss of the Genovese crime family and a cousin of the family boss Frank Costello. Criminal career Born Guarino Moretti in Bari, Apulia, southern Italy, Moretti immigrated to the United States with his family to live in New Jersey. Daniel "Danny the Lion" Leo (born January 16, 1928 in East Harlem, New York City) is the former acting boss of the Genovese crime family, the biggest of New York's Five Mafia families. Mario "the shadow" Gigante (November 4, 1923 – March 10, 2022) was an American mobster in New York City who served as caporegime for the Genovese crime family.
