Iowa State Cyclones Men's Golf
The Iowa State Cyclones men's golf team represents Iowa State University (ISU) and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I. The team is coached by Andrew Tank, he is in his 7th year at Iowa State. The Cyclones play their home meets at Veenker Memorial Golf Course on Iowa State's campus. History The Iowa State men's golf team first got it start in 1923 in the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association conference. After three years the MVIAA dropped men's golf as a sponsored sport. When the Big Six sponsored golf in 1935, Iowa State joined once again. The early Cyclone squad were led by Coach Hugo Otopalik who split his time between Iowa State golf and wrestling. As a pioneer in the field of collegiate golf, OtopaliK was tournament director at the first NCAA golf championship held at the Wakonda Country Club in Des Moines in 1939 and was the first chairman of the NCAA golf committee. Iowa State University of Science and Technology (Iowa State University, Iowa State, or ISU) is a public land-grant research university in Ames, Iowa. It was the 76th NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. The tournament was hosted by Wichita State University. The Alabama Crimson Tide won their second consecutive championship. AIAW
The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) was founded in 1971 to govern collegiate women's athletics in the United States and to administer national championships (see AIAW Champions). It evolved out of the Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (founded in 1967). The association was one of the biggest advancements for women's athletics on the collegiate level. Throughout the 1970s, the AIAW grew rapidly in membership and influence, in parallel with the national growth of women's sports following the enactment of Title IX. Perry Maxwell
Perry Duke Maxwell (June 13, 1879 – November 15, 1952) was an American golf course architect. He was a founding member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and was an inductee into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. He was known as the "father of Oklahoma golf". Early life Perry Duke Maxwell was born on June 13, 1879 in Princeton, Kentucky, to parents of Scottish descent. Maxwell was the son of Dr. James A. Maxwell (born 1847) and Caroline H. "Carrie" Harris (born 1851). He and his wife Ray had four children, daughters Elizabeth, Mary and Dora and son James Press Maxwell.He moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma, in 1897 after two forays at college where he studied classical literature. John Benda
John Benda (born July 9, 1947) is an American professional golfer playing on the European Seniors Tour. Benda was born in Sheridan, Wyoming and currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona. His wife, Veronica, is a native of Chile, and they have no children. Benda turned professional in 1971. He played extensively overseas on the Asian circuit and Australian Tour. One of his best finishes was a runner-up finish at the 1977 Colgate Champion of Champions in Melbourne, Australia. He finished one behind Bob Shearer and tied, among others, Curtis Strange for second place. He twice qualified for The Open Championship (1979 and 1980) with his best finish being two strokes behind the third round cut in 1980 at Muirfield, Scotland. It was the 75th NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, and the tournament was hosted by the Georgia Institute of Technology. The tournament was won by the Alabama Crimson Tide who won their first championship by defeating the Illinois Fighting Illini in the match-play championship round. The 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship was a golf tournament contested from May 28 to May 31, 2008, at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. It was the 70th NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, and was hosted by Purdue University. The team championship was won by the UCLA Bruins who captured their second national championship by one stroke over the defending champion Stanford Cardinal in stroke play. The individual national championship was won by Kevin Chappell, also from UCLA. Venue The tournament was played on the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Chris Baker (golfer)
Christopher Ryan Baker (born March 1, 1986) is an American professional golfer who has played on the Challenge Tour and the Nationwide Tour. Amateur career Baker was born in Seymour, Indiana. He won the 2003 Indiana High School State Championship and lettered in golf at Iowa State University, winning the 2007 Big Four Tournament, he graduated in 2008. Professional career Baker turned professional in 2008 and began playing on mini-tours. He picked up his first professional victory at the NGA Hooters Tour Classic at Quail Crossing on the NGA Hooters Tour in 2009. In 2010, he won the River Hills Classic on the eGolf Professional Tour, which helped him finish sixth on the Tour's money list, earning him an exemption into the Moroccan Golf Classic on the Challenge Tour.
