The International Society of Bassists (ISB) is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit organization for anybody who enjoys the double bass. After a two-year hiatus of the IISB, the International Society of Bassists was launched with Barry Green as executive director, and the society maintains that name today. The president of the Society from 1982-1991 was Jeff Bradetich. The current president is Douglas Mapp, double bass professor at Rowan University, and the General Manager is Madeline Crouch of Don Dillon Associates. Double Bass
The double bass (), also known as the upright bass, the acoustic bass, the bull fiddle, or simply the bass, is the largest and lowest-pitched string instrument, chordophone in the modern orchestra, symphony orchestra (excluding rare additions such as the octobass). It has four or five strings, and its construction is in between that of the gamba and the violin family. Gary Karr
Gary Michael Karr (born November 20, 1941, in Los Angeles) is an American classical double bass virtuoso and teacher; he is considered one of the best bassists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Biography Although he comes from several generations of bassists, he was not encouraged by them to go into music. In an interview with '' ActiveBass'' magazine he said that he has no contact with the professional bassists in his family. After attending Fairfax High School and USC, Karr studied at the Aspen Music Festival and the Juilliard School, where his major teachers included Herman Reinshagen and Stuart Sankey. Karr's breakthrough came in 1962, when he was featured as a soloist in a nationally televised New York Philharmonic Young People's Concert, conducted by Leonard Bernstein. Barry Green (musician)
Barry Green is an American orchestral and solo double bass player and teacher. He was the principal bassist for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He has developed and publicized his own method for double bass. Works He has published three instructional books, ''The Inner Game of Music'' (Doubleday, 1986-over 250,000 copies sold ), ''The Mastery of Music: Ten Pathways to True Artistry'' (Broadway Books 2003), and ''Bringing Music to Life'' (2009 GIA Music). Jeff Bradetich
Jeffrey David Bradetich (born 1957) is an Americans, American professor and performer of double bass. He currently teaches at the University of North Texas College of Music. Bradetich made his New York City debut at the Carnegie Recital Hall (now called Weill Recital Hall) on November 22, 1982. Since then, Bradetich has performed over 800 concerts and given more than 1300 master classes throughout the world, including the continents of South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Education Bradetich began studying double bass in the public school orchestra program in Eugene, Oregon under the tutelage of Royce Lewis and Dr. Robert Hladky. Then from 1975 to 1980, he achieved both bachelor's and master's degrees from Northwestern University while working with Warren Benfield and Joseph Guastafeste from the Chicago Symphony.
