The Institute of Linguistics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ( zh, s=中国社会科学院语言研究所 , t=中國社會科學院語言研究所 , p=Zhōngguó Shèhuì Kēxuéyuàn Yǔyán Yánjiūsuǒ), is the language research institution of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It was established in June 1950 by the name of "Institute of Linguistics, Chinese Academy of Sciences". In 1977, after the establishment of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, it was renamed the "Institute of Linguistics, Chinese Academy of ''Social'' Sciences". This institute is the editor of the Xinhua Dictionary and the Contemporary Chinese Dictionary. The ''Xinhua Zidian'' (), also as ''Xinhua Dictionary'', is a Chinese-language dictionary published by the Commercial Press. The first edition of ''Xinhua Zidian'' was published in 1957. ''Xiandai Hanyu Cidian'' ( zh , s = 现代汉语词典 , t = 現代漢語詞典 , p = Xiàndài Hànyǔ Cídiǎn , l = Modern Han Language Word Dictionary ), also known as ''A Dictionary of Current Chinese'' or ''Contemporary Chinese Dictionary'', is an important one-volume dictionary of Standard Mandarin Chinese published by the Commercial Press, now into its 7th (2016) edition. The Commercial Press () is the first modern publishing organization in China. The Commercial Press is known for its academic publishing and translation work in humanities and social sciences, as well as the '' Xinhua Dictionary''.
