Iloilo
Iloilo ( ; ), officially the Province of Iloilo (; ; ; ), is a province in the Philippines located in the Western Visayas region. Its capital and largest city is Iloilo City, the regional center of Western Visayas and politically independent from the province. Iloilo occupies the southeast portion of the Visayan island of Panay and is bordered by the province of Antique to the west, Capiz to the north, the Jintotolo Channel to the northeast, the Guimaras Strait to the east, and the Iloilo Strait and Panay Gulf to the southwest. Iloilo City, its capital, is the center of the Iloilo–Guimaras metropolitan area or Metro Iloilo–Guimaras, and is geographically located in the province and grouped under it by the Philippine Statistics Authority, but remains politically independent from the provincial government. Governor Of Iloilo
The Governor of Iloilo () is the local chief executive of the Philippine province of Iloilo. The governor holds office at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol () located at Bonifacio Drive, Iloilo City. Like all local government heads in the Philippines, the governor is elected via first past the post, popular vote, and may not be elected for a fourth consecutive term (although the former governor may return to office after an interval of one term). In case of death, resignation or incapacity, the vice governor becomes the governor. Along with the governors of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Guimaras, he sits in the Regional Development Council of the Western Visayas Region. Banate, officially the Municipality of Banate (, ), is a municipality of the Philippines, municipality in the Philippine Province, province of Iloilo, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 33,376 people. The town is primarily a fishing and agricultural municipality, with large areas planted with rice, sugarcane, vegetables, beans, coconut and bananas. Hiligaynon People
The Hiligaynon people (), often referred to as Ilonggo people () or Panayan people (), are the second largest subgroup of the larger Bisaya people, Visayan Ethnic groups in the Philippines, ethnic group, whose primary language is Hiligaynon language, Hiligaynon, an Austronesian language of the Visayan languages, Visayan branch native to Panay, Guimaras, and Negros island, Negros. They originated in the province of Iloilo, on the island of Panay, in the region of Western Visayas. Over the years, inter-migrations and intra-migrations have contributed to the diaspora of the Hiligaynon to different parts of the Philippines. Passi, Iloilo
Passi, officially known as the City of Passi (; ; ), is a Cities of the Philippines#Legal classification, component city in the Provinces of the Philippines, province of Iloilo, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 88,873 people. Passi is the only component city in the province of Iloilo, and ranks as the largest in terms of land area and income, and second only to Oton in population size. History Passi was a settlement founded by the three Malays (ethnic group), Malayan brothers named Dig- on, Tokiab and Umawang at the beginning of its history. Balasan, Iloilo
Balasan, officially the Municipality of Balasan (, ), is a municipality in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 35,064 people. Etymology Balasan derived its name from "Balas" meaning sand which are still found in abundance along the Banks of Bangon River where the first settlement was founded. History Sometime in 1846, Francisco Ariola, son of the datu from Jolo, together with his men, found themselves in the shores of Carles. He immediately organized the early settlers who later mingled with his men at Punta Bulakawe, a plateau just 330 meters north of the Poblacion (town proper). The settlers extended their clearing up the jungles and virgin lands for development. The Provincial Governor of Capiz commissioned Ariola to facilitate transportation of families recruited from Antique and Aklan. Soon afterwards, more settlers came.
