IIHF World Championship Division II
The IIHF World Championship Division II are an annual sports event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The division championships are played in two groups, part of the Ice Hockey World Championships From 2001 until 2011, the two national teams that finished last in their groups in IIHF World Championship Division I, Division I were relegated to Division II for next year's World Championships. At the Division II Championship, the winner of each group was promoted to next year's Division I. In contrast, the loser of each group was relegated to the IIHF World Championship Division III. Beginning in 2012, the Group A champion was promoted to Division I Group B, and was replaced by that tournament's last placed team. The IIHF World Championship Division I is an annual sports event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The divisional championship is played in two groups. 1974 World Ice Hockey Championships
The 1974 Ice Hockey World Championships were the 41st Ice Hockey World Championships and the 52nd European Championships in ice hockey. The tournament took place in Finland from 5 to 20 April and the games were played in the capital, Helsinki. Six teams took part in the main tournament, all playing each other twice. The Soviet Union won the world championships for the 13th time, and also won their 16th European title. The event was the second Ice Hockey World Championships hosted by Finland, and was organized by Harry Lindblad, president of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association. For the first time in ice hockey World Championship history, two players were suspended for doping. They were the Swede Ulf Nilsson and the Finn Stig Wetzell who failed a drug test for the forbidden substance ephedrine. Both players were suspended for the rest of the tournament. 2025 IIHF World Championship Division II
The 2025 IIHF World Championship Division II consisted of two international ice hockey tournaments organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Divisions II A and II B represented the fourth and the fifth tier of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships. Group A was scheduled to be held in Melbourne, Australia, but it was later moved to Serbia. Netherlands won Group A and got promoted to Division I, while Israel was relegated. The 2024 IIHF World Championship Division II is two international ice hockey tournaments run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament was held in Belgrade, Serbia, from 21 to 27 April and the Group B tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 22 to 28 April 2024. Croatia won Group A and got promoted to Division I, while Iceland was relegated. Group B was won by Belgium and saw Turkey getting relegated. 2023 IIHF World Championship Division II
The 2023 IIHF World Championship Division II were two international ice hockey tournaments run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament was held in Madrid, Spain from 16 to 22 April and the Group B tournament in Istanbul, Turkey from 17 to 23 April 2023. Spain won the Group A tournament and got promoted, while Iceland finished last, but Georgia was later disqualified by the IIHF and relegated. 2022 IIHF World Championship Division II
The 2022 IIHF World Championship Division II was an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament was held in Zagreb, Croatia from 25 to 30 April and the Group B tournament in Reykjavík, Iceland from 18 to 23 April 2022. After the tournament was cancelled the two previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all teams stayed put in their respective groups. China won Group A and got promoted to Division IB, while Iceland won Group B and got promoted to Group A. In order to fill each group of the World Championships back to their normal amount of teams, the IIHF made the decision following the tournament not to relegate Israel or Mexico, who finished last in Groups A and B respectively, but instead to promote the Netherlands and Georgia, the runners-up of each group. The 2021 IIHF World Championship Division II was scheduled to be an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The 2019 IIHF World Championship Division II was an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. 2018 IIHF World Championship Division II
The 2018 IIHF World Championship Division II was an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Group A was contested in Tilburg, Netherlands from 23 to 29 April 2018 and Group B in Granada, Spain from 14 to 20 April 2018. The Netherlands were promoted to Division I B and Iceland was relegated to Group B.
