Huacheng Square, or Flower City Square (), is the largest city square in the city of Guangzhou. The square is situated on the city axis in Zhujiang New Town, occupies a area with Haixinsha Island to its south and Huangpu Avenue to its north. Canton Tower
The Canton Tower (), formally Guangzhou TV Astronomical and Sightseeing Tower (), is a -tall multipurpose observation tower in the Haizhu District of Guangzhou ( alternatively romanized as ''Canton''). The tower was topped out in 2009 and it became operational on 29 September 2010 for the 2010 Asian Games. The tower briefly held the title of tallest tower in the world, replacing the CN Tower, before being surpassed by the Tokyo Skytree. It was the tallest structure in China prior to the topping out of the Shanghai Tower on 3 August 2013, and is now the second-tallest tower and the fifth-tallest freestanding structure in the world. Zhujiang New Town
Zhujiang New Town or Zhujiang New City is a central business district in Tianhe District, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. It is bounded by Huangpu Avenue on the north, the Pearl River on the south, Guangzhou Avenue on the west and the South China Expressway on the east. Covering an area of 6.44 km2, it is divided by Xiancun Road () into two parts. The larger eastern section contains mainly high-end residential apartments and in the centre lies the Zhujiang park. Such a layout was modelled on the Central Park in New York where the park itself provides a green oasis in the city centre and increases the value of surrounding properties. Haixinsha Island (Tianhe District)
Haixinsha Island () is an island in Tianhe District, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. It is located to the south of Zhujiang New Town, newly developed CBD of the city, to the north of Canton Tower and to the east of Ersha Island. The island had been used as garrison and warehouses of the People's Liberation Army until the local government decided it was to be redeveloped and used as the venue of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Asian Games. The island also sat at a strategic point of the new city centre, bordered by the new CBD on the north and the Pearl River on the south. Besides allocating a piece of land to the military, local government reportedly compensated another ¥1 billion in order to acquire land of the island. The Guangdong Museum () is a general museum of Cantonese art, nature, culture and history in Guangzhou. History Old building The Guangdong Provincial Museum was located on 215 Wenming Rd. (), in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, on which was the original site of Sun Yat-sen University. It was a provincial general museum, founded in 1959 and with a land area of 43,000 square meters. The 2010 Asian Games (), officially known as the XVI Asian Games () and also known as Guangzhou 2010 (), was a regional multi-sport event celebrated from November 12 to November 27, 2010 in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, although several events commenced earlier on November 7, 2010.
