The Heritage Institute for Policy Studies (HIPS) is a think tank based in Mogadishu, Somalia. Overview The Heritage Institute for Policy Studies is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan research center which aims to inform and influence public policy and practice through field-based research, informed analysis and innovative solutions in the form of reports, policy briefs and public debates. Established in Mogadishu, Somalia in January 2013, the HIPS has begun writing reports and policy papers to advise the nascent Somali government, international organizations, and other local actors. A think tank, or policy institute, is a research institute that performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military, technology, and culture. Mohamoud Ahmed Nur ( so, Maxamed Nuur, ar, محمد نور) is a Somali politician. He served as the Mayor of Mogadishu from 2010 to 27 February 2014. Background Personal life Nur was born to a family from the Udejeen sub-clan of the Hawiye. He was raised in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. Nur is married to Shamis, with whom he has six children and grandchildren from four of them. When the Somali Civil War broke out in the early 1990s, he and his family emigrated to London in 1993.
