Heming (company)
Heming is a British jewellery company, founded in London in 1745. The company has a showroom in the Piccadilly Arcade near to the original store on Piccadilly. History Heming's history dates to 1738 when Thomas Heming began his apprenticeship to the Huguenot silver and goldsmith Peter Archambo. In 1745 Thomas Heming entered his first mark at Goldsmith's Hall, registered to a Piccadilly address, before going on to trade from his shop at the King's Arms in New Bond Street, opposite Clifford Street. Heming was made a freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in 1746 and rose to prominence in 1760 with his appointment as Principal Goldsmith to King George III, a position held until 1782. It was Lord Bute, one of Heming’s most important patrons, who encouraged this significant new appointment. IL Heming
Idrettslaget Heming is a Norwegian sports club from Slemdal, Oslo. It has sections for association football, Nordic skiing, alpine skiing, orienteering and tennis, previously also for bandy. General history It was founded on 25 May 1916, and named after a mythological character based in the Viking era. It has the sports field Hemingbanen and the indoor arenas Heminghallen and Nye Heminghallen near Gråkammen station. Famous members include Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen, Marius Eriksen, Astrid Sandvik, Thorleif Schjelderup, Harald Maartmann and Astrid Sunde. The men's football team currently plays in the Fourth Division, the fifth tier of Norwegian football. It last played in the Third Division in 2008. Orienteering IL Heming was among the pioneering clubs in orienteering in the 1930s. Among the top orienteers were Otto Erichsen, Finn Jespersen and Per Bergsland. Michael Heming
Michael Savage Heming (14 January 1920 – 3 November 1942) was a British composer. He was the son of Percy Alfred Heming, a well-known baritone, and Joyce Savage. Educated at Wellington College in Berkshire, Heming went on to study conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, and was slated to become a student-assistant of John Barbirolli. In 1942, while serving as a lieutenant in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, Heming was killed in action at the battle of El Alamein. Upon the return home of his personal effects, his mother discovered musical sketches Heming had written during and after his voyage to Africa. Percy Heming showed the sketches to Barbirolli, who engaged the composer and conductor Anthony Vincent Collins to edit the sketches into a work called ''Threnody for a Soldier Killed in Action''. The work was premiered at Sheffield City Hall, by the Hallé Orchestra conducted by Barbirolli, on 14 January 1944, which would have been Heming's 24th birthday. In 1945 Barbirolli ... Rob Heming
Robin John Heming (11 December 1932 – 7 January 2023) was an Australian Lock/ No.8 rugby union player who played 21 tests for Australia between 1961 and 1967. Born in Namatanai in New Ireland off the then Australian Territory of New Guinea (now Papua New Guinea). He was educated at North Sydney Boys High School and qualified as an optometrist at what is now The University of New South Wales. He practised for many years on The Corso at Manly. Rugby career After narrowly missing qualification for the Melbourne Olympics as a swimmer in 1956, Heming joined the Manly Marlins rugby club, and made the first grade side in his first season, playing at No.8. He went on to play 132 first grade games for Manly between 1956-1969. He was picked for the 1957-58 Wallaby trials, and debuted for the NSW Waratahs in 1957.
