Helena Basilova is a Dutch pianist born in Russia and based in the Netherlands since 1990. Educated in the Netherlands and New York City, Basilova has championed the works of Eastern European composers such as Alexander Scriabin and Leoš Janáček with recordings on Quintone Records. Family Helena Basilova was born in the former Soviet Union as a daughter of two pianists. Her father Alexander Basilov (1946-2007), was a prominent Russian pianist, composer and piano teacher at Gnessin State Musical College. Helena Janeczek (born 1964) is an Italian novelist of Polish Jewish origin. Life and career Helena Janeczek was born in Munich, Germany, from a Polish family of Jews who survived the Holocaust. She moved to Italy when she was 19 and has lived there ever since. Her first book, ''Lezioni di tenebra'' (''Lessons of Darkness''), was published in 1997. It was a retelling of her family history and followed her journey with her mother to Auschwitz, where her mother was detained during World War II. Helena C. Guergis, ( ; born February 19, 1969) is a Canadian politician of Assyrian descent. She represented the Ontario riding of Simcoe—Grey in the House of Commons of Canada from 2004 to 2011, and was appointed Minister of State (Status of Women) on October 30, 2008, following the October 14, 2008 Canadian federal election. Soon after starting her parliamentary career, she became involved in several controversial situations, and these increased with time in both number and severity. Guergis was forced to resign from the Cabinet of Canada and leave the Conservative Party caucus on April 9, 2010, pending a Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigation into "serious" but unspecified allegations regarding her conduct. Helena Braun (20 March 1903 – 2 September 1990) was a German dramatic soprano. She made her stage debut in Mozart's ''Le nozze di Figaro'' in 1928 and joined the Vienna State Opera and the Bavarian State Opera in 1939 and 1940, respectively.
