Healthcare In Surrey
Healthcare in Surrey was the responsibility of five Clinical Commissioning Groups: East Surrey, North West Surrey, Surrey Downs, Guildford and Waverley, and Surrey Heath from 2013 to 2020 when East Surrey, North West Surrey, Surrey Downs, Guildford and Waverley merged to form Surrey Heartlands CCG. The new organisation started with a £62 million deficit. History From 1947 to 1974 NHS services in Surrey were managed by the South-West Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board. In 1974 the boards were abolished and replaced by regional health authorities. Surrey came under the South West Thames RHA apart from Spelthorne which came under the North West Thames RHA. Clinical Commissioning Group
Clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) were NHS organisations set up by the Health and Social Care Act 2012 to organise the delivery of NHS services in each of their local areas in England. On 1 July 2022 they were abolished and replaced by Integrated care systems as a result of the Health and Care Act 2022. Establishment The announcement that GPs would take over this commissioning role was made in the 2010 white paper "Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS". This was part of the government's stated desire to create a clinically-driven commissioning system that was more sensitive to the needs of patients. The 2010 white paper became law under the Health and Social Care Act 2012 in March 2012. NHS England, officially the NHS Commissioning Board, is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department of Health and Social Care. It oversees the budget, planning, delivery and day-to-day operation of the commissioning side of the National Health Service in England as set out in the Health and Social Care Act 2012. The Royal Surrey County Hospital (RSCH) is a 520-bed District General Hospital, located on the fringe of Guildford, run by the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. History The hospital has its origins in a facility at Farnham Road which opened in 1866. The hospital moved to Egerton Road in Guildford in 1979. Virgin Care was a British private provider of community health and social services, commissioned by the National Health Service and local authorities in England. Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is an NHS trust covering the London Borough of Sutton and north Surrey. It runs two main hospitals: Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital. Central Surrey Health, also known as CSH Surrey, was the first employee-owned community healthcare social enterprise to be “spun out” of the NHS, in 2006. It is one of the 11 health and social care providers who are known as the Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership. It runs four community hospitals, in Leatherhead, Molesey, New Epsom and Ewell, and Dorking. It was set up as a not-for-profit, limited liability company under contract to provide community nursing and therapy services on behalf of the East Elmbridge and Mid Surrey Primary Care Trust. Transforming Community Services
Transforming Community Services was a programme in the English NHS which operated from 2008 at a national level and continued during the implementation of the Health and Social Care Act 2012. Although the rhetoric of the programme was about improving the quality of community services the reality was mostly concerned with structural changes. Community services in England did not fit easily into the model of the NHS developed under the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990 and were repeatedly reorganised. When primary care trusts were established most of the free-standing community NHS trusts were dissolved and taken over by the PCTs – sometimes being divided up in the process. Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) is a pathology network, serving NHS hospitals in Surrey and Berkshire.
