Newton Harcourt
Newton Harcourt is a village in the England, English county of Leicestershire and lies 7 miles south-east of the city of Leicester on the northern ridge of the River Sence, Wigston, River Sence valley. Since 1936 it has been part of the civil parish of Wistow, Leicestershire, Wistow. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 256. Administratively, Newton Harcourt forms part of the civil parish of Wistow, Leicestershire, Wistow (where its population was included) and of the district of Harborough District, Harborough. Geography The village is situated on the northern ridge of the River Sence, Wigston, River Sence valley. Harcourt House, London
Harcourt House was a palatial residence built in about 1722 by Thomas Archer on Cavendish Square. The main structure was largely demolished in 1906 leaving only the southern wing on the corner with Margaret Street, now Flanders House. The southern wing of the building survives today as 1A Cavendish Square. The palladian residence Archer designed was the centre-piece of the west side of Cavendish Square, London for nearly two centuries. Archer's building was built for Robert Benson, 1st Baron Bingley, but was renamed to Harcourt House after it was bought by Simon Harcourt, 1st Viscount Harcourt. The house was significantly altered by his grandson Simon Harcourt, 1st Earl Harcourt. It was later the residence of William Cavendish-Scott-Bentinck, 5th Duke of Portland, Lord of the Manor of Marylebone, and John Campbell, 2nd Marquess of Breadalbane. Viscount Harcourt, of Stanton Harcourt in the County of Oxford, was a title created twice for members of the Harcourt family, once in the Peerage of Great Britain and once in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. Harcourt () was an American publishing firm with a long history of publishing fiction and nonfiction for adults and children. The company was last based in San Diego, California, with editorial/sales/marketing/rights offices in New York City and Orlando, Florida, and was known at different stages in its history as Harcourt Brace, & Co. and Harcourt Brace Jovanovich. From 1919 to 1982, it was based in New York City. Houghton Mifflin acquired Harcourt in 2007. It incorporated the Harcourt name to form Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Mount Vernon Harcourt
Mount Vernon Harcourt, also unofficially known as Mount Harcourt, is a conical stratovolcano, that rises over 1,535 meters, making up part of the Hallett Peninsula extending into the Ross Sea about south of Mount Erebus, along with three overlapping shield volcanoes. The mountain was discovered in January 1841 by Sir James Clark Ross and named by him for the Reverend William Vernon Harcourt, one of the founders of the British Association. Mount Vernon Harcourt is part of the Hallett Volcanic Province of the McMurdo Volcanic Group. Two dates have been obtained from the volcano's rock, roughly 5.5 and 6.6 million years in age.
