Hanomag Locomotives
Hanomag (Hannoversche Maschinenbau AG, ) was a German producer of steam locomotives, tractors, trucks and military vehicles in Hanover. Hanomag first achieved international fame by delivering numerous steam locomotives to Finland, Romania and Bulgaria before World War I and making of first tractor Hanomag R26 in 1924 in Germany. In 1925, they added automobiles to their line, additionally moving in 1931 into the production of construction machinery. Since 1989, the company has been part of the Komatsu company. History The company dates back to 1835 when Georg Egestorff founded in Linden near Hanover a company called ''Eisen-Giesserey und Maschinenfabrik Georg Egestorff'' to build small steam engines. A steam wagon (or steam lorry, steam waggon or steamtruck) is a steam-powered truck for carrying freight. It was the earliest form of lorry (truck) and came in two basic forms: ''overtype'' and ''undertype'', the distinction being the position of the engine relative to the boiler. Manufacturers tended to concentrate on one form or the other. Steam wagons were a widespread form of powered road traction for commercial haulage in the early part of the twentieth century, although they were a largely British phenomenon, with few manufacturers outside Great Britain. Competition from internal-combustion-powered vehicles and adverse legislation meant that few remained in commercial use beyond the Second World War. Hanomag Rekord
The Hanomag Rekord is a mid-size car produced by Hanomag in Hannover from 1933 until 1940. The car was Hanomag's first mid-size model and one of the first mass-produced cars available with a Diesel engine. Hanomag introduced the Rekord as the ''6/32 PS'' intermediate model in autumn of 1933; the first car to bear the Rekord name followed shortly thereafter in February 1934. Compared with the 6/32 PS, the Rekords have a longer wheelbase, independent front suspension and different engine ancillaries. In 1937, the vehicle was updated with a new "streamlined" back, and the production of the Diesel engine model commenced – prior to 1937, all Rekords were fitted with an Otto (spark ignition) engine. Henschel & Son (german: Henschel und Sohn) was a German company, located in Kassel, best known during the 20th century as a maker of transportation equipment, including locomotives, trucks, buses and trolleybuses, and armoured fighting vehicles and weapons. Georg Christian Carl Henschel founded the factory in 1810 at Kassel. His son Carl Anton Henschel founded another factory in 1837. In 1848, the company began manufacturing locomotives. The factory became the largest locomotive manufacturer in Germany by the 20th century. Henschel built 10 articulated steam trucks, using Doble steam designs, for Deutsche Reichsbahn railways as delivery trucks. Kommissbrot, formerly Kommißbrot, is a dark type of German bread, baked from rye and other flours, historically used for military provisions. Description Kommissbrot is a dark bread made from rye and wheat flours as a sourdough. It has a firm but not hard crust, and because it is normally baked in a loaf pan, it develops a crust only on the top. It is noted for its long shelf life. Hanomag 2 / 10 PS
The Hanomag 2/10 PS is an economy car manufactured by Hanomag from 1924 until 1928. It was one of the first cars with envelope styling. It was affectionately referred to as the ''Kommissbrot'' ("Army Bread") due to its identical shape with the usual loaf of bread used by the German army at the time. "Kommiss" is German slang for "Army", short for " commissioned." The 2/10 PS (two taxable / ten brake horsepower) had a single-cylinder half litre engine behind the passengers. The rear axle was chain-driven, with no differential. With a fuel consumption of it was the world's most fuel efficient mass-production car between the two World Wars due to the low-friction one-cylinder engine and its very light weight.
