Hurling Club Of Madison
The Hurling Club of Madison is an American amateur sports club based in Madison, Wisconsin, playing and promoting the sport of hurling. Since 2015, the club has also sponsored a Gaelic football team, adding a women's Gaelic football team in 2016. The club is a member of the United States Gaelic Athletic Association, Heartland Division. An amateur club, membership is open to players aged 16 and up, with a current age range of members from 16 to 50+. Founded in 2007 by a group led by Jason Kenney, Bill Jones, Chris Lane, Tom Isenbarger and Ben Bares, the club earned its first national hurling championship in 2015, winning the 14-team Junior C hurling tournament at the USGAA Finals in Chicago. The Wisconsin Rugby Club (WRC) is a USA Rugby Men's Rugby Union club with sides competing in Division 2 and Division 3. WRC is based in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. Wisconsin is the 2013 & 1998 USA Rugby Division 2 National Champions, 2012 Runner-up, and 2008 3rd Place finisher. And 2021 last place finisher. A sliotar ( , ) or sliothar is a hard solid sphere slightly larger than a tennis ball, consisting of a cork core covered by two pieces of leather stitched together. A hurley or hurl or hurling stick ( Irish: ''camán'') is a wooden stick used in the Irish sports of hurling and camogie. It typically measures between 45 and 96 cm (18 to 38 inches) long with a flattened, curved ''bas'' ( , " palm of hand") at the end. The ''bas'' (which is less than 13 cm in width at its widest point) is used to strike a leather ''sliotar'' ball.
