Hollywood Squares
''Hollywood Squares'' (originally ''The Hollywood Squares'', later stylized as ''H2: Hollywood Squares'') is an American game show in which two contestants compete in a game of tic-tac-toe to win cash and prizes. The show originally aired as a pilot on NBC in 1965, and debuted on NBC as a regular series in October 1966. The board for the game is a 3 × 3 vertical stack of open-faced cubes, each occupied by a celebrity seated at a desk facing the contestants. The stars are asked questions by the host and the contestants judge the truth of their answers to gain squares in the right pattern to win the game. Though ''Hollywood Squares'' was a legitimate game show, the game largely acted as the background for the show's comedy in the form of joke answers (commonly called "zingers" by the production staff), often given by the stars prior to their real answer. Merrill Heatter
Merrill Gabriel Heatter (December 16, 1925 – October 8, 2017) was an American television producer and writer. He was best known for his collaboration with writer Bob Quigley for over 20 years and the formation of their production company Heatter-Quigley Productions in 1960. The company was responsible for the game shows ''Hollywood Squares'' and ''Gambit (game show), Gambit'' and the animated television series ''Wacky Races (1968 TV series), Wacky Races''. He also formed Heatter-Quigley Productions#Titles by Merrill Heatter Productions, Merrill Heatter Productions in 1980, which is responsible for the ''Gambit''-based show ''Catch 21''. Jon Bauman
Jon "Bowzer" Bauman (born September 14, 1947) is an American singer, best known as a member of the band Sha Na Na, and game show host. Bauman's Sha Na Na character Bowzer was a greaser in a muscle shirt. Biography and career Bauman was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Polish-German Jewish immigrants. His father was a dentist and a singer in the Hollis Hills Jewish Center choir. ''Match Game'' is an American television panel game show that premiered on NBC in 1962 and has been revived several times over the course of the last six decades. ''Hip Hop Squares'' is an American television game show originally hosted by Peter Rosenberg, which debuted on MTV2 on May 22, 2012. ''Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour'' is an American television panel game show that combined two panel games of the 1960s and 1970s – ''Match Game'' and ''Hollywood Squares'' – into an hour-long format. ''Storybook Squares'' is an American game show. It is a spin-off of ''Hollywood Squares''. The series featured celebrities dressed up as famous people and characters from history and various forms of media. Peter Marshall (U.S. entertainer), Peter Marshall served as host of these episodes. The panelists were introduced by "The Guardian of the Gate", who announced their characters' presence by reading their names from a scroll. The Guardian was played by regular ''Hollywood Squares'' announcer Kenny Williams (announcer), Kenny Williams, and the character was similar to his "Town Crier" character from ''Video Village''.
