Harvey Dunn Sr.
Harvey Louis Dunn (6 August 1899 – 12 September 1961) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton Football Club, Carlton in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). His son, Harvey Dunn Jr., also played for Carlton and was notably the first player recruited under the father–son rule. Dunn spent time as the coach of the Box Hill Football Club, and was its inaugural Victorian Football Association coach in 1951. He later coached the Carlton Thirds from 1953 until 1955. Carlton North is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Melbourne and Yarra local government areas. Carlton North recorded a population of 6,177 at the 2021 census. The suburb is bordered by Princes Street and Cemetery Road to the south, Royal Parade to the west, Nicholson Street to the east and Park Street to the north. Niddrie is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Moonee Valley local government area. Niddrie recorded a population of 5,901 at the 2021 census. Niddrie is bounded by the Calder Freeway to the north, Steele Creek to the west, Hoffmans Road to the east and Rosehill Road to the south. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Father–son Rule
The father–son rule is a rule that allows clubs preferential recruiting access to the sons of players who have made a major past contribution to the club in Australian rules football, most notably in the Australian Football League. The rule was first established in 1949, and there have been more than ten amendments, most recently the refining of the draft bidding process in 2015. History The father–son rule was established during the 1949 season, allowing a player to be recruited by the club his father had played for, despite being residentially zoned to another club. It has an alliance with the Hawthorn Football Club, which plays in the Australian Football League.
