Manchester, Kentucky
Manchester is a home rule-class city in Clay County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is the seat of its county and the home of a minimum- and medium-security federal prison. The city's population was 1,255 at the 2010 census. History The town was founded to be the seat of the newly formed Clay Co. in 1807 on a parcel near the Lower Goose Creek Salt Works. Greenville is a census-designated place (CDP) and the main village in the town of Greenville in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. The population of the CDP was 1,074 at the 2020 census, out of 1,974 in the entire town. Geography The CDP occupies the northern half of the town of Greenville. The village of Greenville is in the western part of the CDP, on both sides of the Souhegan River. The CDP boundary follows the Greenville town line to the north, east, and west. To the south, the CDP border follows New Hampshire Route 123 (River Street, Pleasant Street, and Mason Road) and Darling Hill Road. The portion of the town of Greenville south of these roads is outside the CDP. New Hampshire Route 31 is the main road through the CDP, passing east of the village center. Greenville is a city located on U.S. Route 67 near the intersection with Route D and E in Wayne County, Missouri, United States, along the St. Francis River. The population was 443 at the 2020 census. Greenville was incorporated and founded as the county seat of Wayne County in 1819. History Greenville was named after Fort Greene Ville (now Greenville), Ohio, the site where General Anthony Wayne signed a treaty with the Native Americans after defeating them in the Battle of Fallen Timbers on August 20, 1794. Old Greenville, Mississippi
Old Greenville is a ghost town in Jefferson County, Mississippi, United States. The town was located along the old Natchez Trace and was once the largest town along the Trace. Nothing exists at the site today except the town's cemetery. History Old Greenville was located on Coles Creek, approximately northeast of Natchez. The area around Old Greenville was settled prior to 1798 and was originally known as Greenbay in honor of a local landowner, Henry Green. It was then known as Huntley, in honor of Abijah Hunt, who operated a store and the first cotton gin in Jefferson County in the area. In 1803, multiple landowners (including Ferdinand Claiborne), donated land that became part of the town of Greenville, named in honor of General Nathanael Greene. Greenville is a city in Montcalm County of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 8,816 at the 2020 census. History Greenville is named after its founder, John Green, who settled in the wilderness of the southwest part of Montcalm County in 1844. John Green constructed a sawmill on the Flat River that is credited for attracting other settlers. The newly formed Green's Village attracted many people of Danish origin who followed another early Danish settler's positive letters home regarding the area. Because of the town's heritage, Greenville celebrates the Danish Festival every year on the third weekend of August. A post office was established on January 20, 1848, with Abel French as the first postmaster.
