''Greatest Hits II'' is a compilation album by the British rock band Queen, released on 28 October 1991. The album consisted of Queen's biggest hits between 1981 and 1991, from the UK chart-topper "Under Pressure" to " The Show Must Go On". The compilation ''Greatest Hits II'' reached number one on the UK Albums Chart, and is the tenth best-selling album in the UK with sales of 3.9 million copies as of 2014. It is the seventh best-selling album in Germany, the thirteenth best-selling album in France, and the best-selling album by a foreign artist in Finland. Accumulated sales (''Greatest Hits II'' and '' Classic Queen'' for the US and Canada combined) are in excess of 25 million worldwide. Freddie Mercury designed the crest on the album cover, using the astrological signs of the four members: two Leos ( Roger Taylor and John Deacon), one Cancer (Brian May) and one Virgo (Mercury). Queen (band)
Queen are a British rock band formed in London in 1970 by Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals) and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), later joined by John Deacon (bass). Their earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock. Before forming Queen, May and Taylor had played together in the band Smile. Mercury was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. He joined in 1970 and suggested the name "Queen". Deacon was recruited in February 1971, before the band released their eponymous debut album in 1973. Freddie Mercury
Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara; 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a British singer and songwriter, who achieved worldwide fame as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range. Mercury defied the conventions of a rock frontman with his theatrical style, influencing the artistic direction of Queen. Born in 1946 in Zanzibar to Parsi-Indian parents, Mercury attended English-style boarding schools in India from the age of eight and returned to Zanzibar after secondary school. In 1964, his family fled the Zanzibar Revolution, moving to Middlesex, England. Having studied and written music for years, he formed Queen in 1970 with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. ''Innuendo'' is the fourteenth studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 4 February 1991 by Parlophone in the United Kingdom and it is the band's first studio album to be released by Hollywood Records in the United States. Produced by David Richards and the band, it was the band's last album to be released in lead singer Freddie Mercury's lifetime, and their most recent one to be composed of entirely new material. It reached the No. 1 spot on the UK album charts for two weeks, and also peaked at No. 1 in Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland, staying at No. 1 for three weeks, four weeks, six weeks, and eight weeks, respectively. ''Greatest Video Hits 2'' is the second DVD of music videos from the English band, Queen. It was released in November 2003, and included video hits of the band from 1981 to 1989. It was at number one in UK, in its first week. It also peaked at number 1 in Ireland. In that same year the DVD was number 2 in Spain, and number 4 in Italy. It was certified 2 platinum awards in UK, platinum in France and Australia, gold in Germany, Spain, Poland and other countries. It features an option for audio commentary from both Brian May and Roger Taylor on each music video, reflecting on their memories and opinions of each video. ''Greatest Hits III'' is a compilation album by British rock band Queen. It is a compilation of latter-day songs, the band members' solo hits and the band's collaborations with other artists (hence the album's credit to "Queen+"). It was released on 8 November 1999. The first two tracks on the album were new previously unreleased versions of classic Queen songs. The album includes "These Are the Days of Our Lives" (1991), which was Freddie Mercury's last appearance in a music video, and "No-One but You (Only the Good Die Young)" (1997), a song dedicated to Mercury which also features the last recording of bass guitarist John Deacon before his retirement. "Scandal" is a song by the British rock band Queen. It was released as the fourth single from their 1989 album '' The Miracle'' and peaked at #25 in the UK. The single was released in the United States but failed to chart. Composition "Scandal", written by Brian May, but credited to Queen, is about the unwanted attention May and lead singer Freddie Mercury received from the press in the late 1980s, involving May's divorce from his first wife, Chrissie Mullen, and his relationship with actress Anita Dobson and growing media speculation about Mercury's health. Mercury was diagnosed with AIDS in April 1987; he did not reveal his condition until the day before his death in November 1991. Released on 26 November 1984, the single spent six weeks in the UK charts over Christmas 1984 and new year of 1985, and peaked at number 21. The song was not originally released on any Queen studio album, appearing only on Queen's '' Greatest Hits III'', released in 1999, and as the B-side of the single "A Winter's Tale" from the 1995 album '' Made in Heaven''. "Back Chat", written by the bass guitarist John Deacon, is the track most influenced by funk on the 1982 Queen album ''Hot Space''. The song is a prime example of how Deacon was strongly pulling the band into dance orientated genres such as R&B, disco, and funk. It reached #40 on the UK Singles Chart, #18 in South Africa and a #19 entry in Ireland. The track was performed on the Hot Space Tour at a faster tempo, with a more rock-oriented arrangement.
