Great Britain Women's National Ice Hockey Team
The British women's national ice hockey team represents Great Britain at the International Ice Hockey Federation's IIHF World Women's Championships. The women's national team is controlled by Ice Hockey UK. As of 2011, Great Britain has 476 female players. History From 1989 to 1997, the British women's national team competed in the European Championships. After 1999, the team has competed in the IIHF World Women's Championships. At present, Great Britain play in Division II. In 1989, Team GB re-entered the World of International Hockey, with a European Championship two-leg qualifying match against the Netherlands in Chelmsford. Ice Hockey UK
Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) is the national governing body of ice hockey in the United Kingdom. Affiliated to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), IHUK is the internationally recognised umbrella body in the United Kingdom. IHUK was created to replace the British Ice Hockey Association (BIHA). The organisation is responsible to the IIHF for the good order of the sport in the UK. The IHUK is charged with ensuring that all overseas players are properly cleared to play and that the rules and by-laws of the IIHF are upheld. 2003 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships
The 2003 IIHF Women's World Championships was set to be held in Beijing, China, from April 4–9, 2003. However, it was cancelled due to the SARS crisis. Only the top division event was cancelled, as the lower divisions still had their tournaments. The teams from Russia, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland were already in China, while the American and Finnish teams were awaiting word on whether they should travel when the IIHF indicated that the Championships were to be postponed or even cancelled. The move to cancel was a logical one, as the Canadians were under a government order not to travel at all at that time. The Division I tournament was held in Ventspils, Latvia from March 9 to 15. The Division II tournament was held in Lecco, Italy from March 31 to April 6. Top Division Postponed, then cancelled. 2018 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II
The 2018 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II was three international ice hockey tournaments organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Division II Group A tournament was played in Maribor, Slovenia, from 31 March to 6 April 2018, the Division II Group B tournament was played in Valdemoro, Spain, from 17 to 23 March 2018, and the Division II Group B Qualification tournament was played in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 4 to 9 December 2017. The Netherlands won the Division II Group A tournament and will play in Division I next year. 2014 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II
The 2014 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II was an ice hockey competition consisting of three tournaments. The Division II Group A tournament was played in Asiago, Italy, from 6 to 12 April 2014. The Division II Group B was played from 24 to 30 March 2014 in Reykjavík, Iceland. The qualification tournament was held in Mexico City, Mexico, from 19 to 22 March 2014. The winners of Division II Group A were promoted to the Division I Group B for the 2015 championship, while the last-placed team was relegated to the Division II Group B. 2013 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I
The Division I Group A tournament was held at DNB Arena in Stavanger, Norway, from 7 to 13 April 2013. The Division I Group B was contested from 8 to 14 April 2013 at Patinoire Iceberg in Strasbourg, France. The winners of the Division I Group A were initially presumed to be promoted to the 2015 Top Division. However, with the Divisions I and II playing in an Olympic year, and the eight Olympic entries being in none of those tournaments, it was determined that the last placed Olympic team will play a challenge series with the 2014 Division I Group A champion for promotion to the 2015 Top Division. 2012 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I
The Division I Group A tournament was held in Ventspils, Latvia, from March 25 to 31.
