Grand Island Senior High School (New York)
Grand Island Senior High School is a public high school located at 1100 Ransom Road in Grand Island, New York, serving over 1,000 students in grades 9–12. The school follows the New York State Regents Board curriculum. Advanced Placement classes are offered in 16 subjects including Biology, Calculus, Physics C: Mechanics and Electricity/Magnetism, and US History. Many students participate in a BOCES program which allows them to experience many occupations before pursuing them and gaining useful training and certifications. Students' averages are calculated using a percentage based scale. The school is under the jurisdiction of the Grand Island Central School District. The Grand Island Central School District is a New York State public school district that serves the town of Grand Island in Erie County. The district consists of 5 schools–3 elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. The middle and high schools share the same address and building. From 2013 to 2017, the district underwent a $58 million renovation, dubbed the "Capital Project" locally. This project included improvements to the district's lighting, air conditioning, auditoriums, gymnasiums, wireless Internet, as well as the addition of new academic wings. Grand Island is known regionally for their music program, and was designated for their community excellence in 2012-2016. Marc Scibilia is an American singer-songwriter born and raised in Buffalo, New York, currently based in East Nashville, Tennessee. His self-titled EP released in 2012 included the song "How Bad We Need Each Other" which was featured in the hit television series ''Bones''. Brett Alan Kern (born February 17, 1986) is an American football punter for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Toledo and was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2008. After being waived by the Broncos after less than two full seasons, Kern was then acquired by the Titans and became a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time All-Pro with the team. Carlin Hartman
Carlin Hartman (born August 14, 1972) is a basketball coach who currently is the Associate head coach at Florida. He is a 1990 graduate of Grand Island Senior High School in Grand Island, NY. As a senior, he was an Honorable Mention McDonald's All-American. He attended Tulane University from 1991–1994 and was on the Metro Conference All-Freshman Team in 1991 and All-Conference Honorable Mention in 1994. Hartman was the 6th man on Tulane teams that made the NCAA tournament in 1992 and 1993. Those teams upset higher seeded St. John's and Kansas State, respectively. Hartman finished his career at Tulane 6th all time in steals and 10th in scoring and rebounds. In February 2011, Hartman was named to Tulane's All-Decade Team (1990s), part of the Green Wave's celebration of 100 years of basketball. Stacy Clark (born September 21, 1980) is an American singer-songwriter born in Buffalo, New York. Beginnings Clark was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. Self-taught, Clark stood out in the Buffalo music scene and was often compared to the next Ani DiFranco. In 2004, Clark packed her bags and made the long drive from NYC to California to further pursue a career in music. Clark landed a production deal off of her songwriting, and went into the studio with producer Ian Kirkpatrick to record EP ''Unusual''. In 2007, Clark went back into the studio with Kirkpatrick to create her album ''Apples & Oranges''. Without the help of a record label, she worked full-time to fund the album. James Arias (born August 16, 1964) is a retired tennis touring professional player from the United States. Biography Arias was born in Grand Island, near Buffalo, New York. A baseliner, Arias turned pro at age 16 in 1980. His peak year was 1983, when as a 19-year-old he finished the year ranked World No. 6, having reached the U.S. Open semi-finals by defeating Jonathan Canter, Tom Gullikson, Gianni Ocleppo, Joakim Nyström and Yannick Noah, and then lost to Ivan Lendl. He also won the Italian Open and three other tour grand prix events. He reached his career high ranking of World No. 5 in April 1984.
