Grammar Checkers
A grammar checker, in computing terms, is a program, or part of a program, that attempts to verify written text for grammatical correctness. Grammar checkers are most often implemented as a feature of a larger program, such as a word processor, but are also available as a stand-alone application that can be activated from within programs that work with editable text. The implementation of a grammar checker makes use of natural language processing. History The earliest "grammar checkers" were programs that checked for punctuation and style inconsistencies, rather than a complete range of possible grammatical errors. Abiword Grammar
AbiWord () is a free and open-source software word processor. It is written in C++ and since version 3 it is based on GTK+ 3. The name "AbiWord" is derived from the root of the Spanish word "'' abierto''", meaning "open".Project MascoAbi the Ant Page explains "Abi" is pronounced just like "Abby". AbiWord was originally started by SourceGear Corporation as the first part of a proposed AbiSuite but was adopted by open source developers after SourceGear changed its business focus and ceased development. Capitalization

Pattern Matching
In computer science, pattern matching is the act of checking a given sequence of tokens for the presence of the constituents of some pattern. LanguageTool
LanguageTool is a free and open-source grammar, style, and spell checker, and all its features are available for download. LanguageTool website connects to a proprietary sister project LanguageTool Plus, which provides improved error detection for English and German, as well as easier revision of longer texts, following the open-core model. It was started by Daniel Naber for his diploma thesis in 2003 (then written in Python). It now supports 31 languages, each developed by volunteer maintainers, usually native speakers of each language. Based on error detection patterns, rules are created and then tested for a given text. The core app itself is free and open-source and can be downloaded for offline use. Some languages use 'n-gram' data, which is massive and requires considerable processing power and I/O speed, for some extra detections. Free And Open-source Software
Free and open-source software (FOSS) is a term used to refer to groups of software consisting of both free software and open-source software where anyone is freely licensed to use, copy, study, and change the software in any way, and the source code is openly shared so that people are encouraged to voluntarily improve the design of the software. This is in contrast to proprietary software, where the software is under restrictive copyright licensing and the source code is usually hidden from the users.
