Goldsborough is a locality in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Goldsborough had a population of 929 people. Geography The Mulgrave River flows from the south to the north-east of the locality, forming its northern boundary. The river which is at 20–60 metres above sea level forms a north–south valley through the locality with mountainous land rising on the east (to an unnamed peak of 560 metres) and to Mount Mac (just beyond the locality's western boundary at 900 metres). The most northerly part of the locality is somewhat lower (100–140 metres above sea level) and is freehold, containing the residential component of the locality and some agriculture use. Further south, the land to the west of the Mulgrave River is freehold but is mostly undeveloped apart from some residential and agriculture use along the river, while the land to the east of the river is undeveloped and forms part of the Wooroonooran National Park, which is part of the Wet Tropics World ... Thomas Alan Goldsborough (September 16, 1877 – June 16, 1951) was a United States representative from Maryland and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Education and career Born in Greensboro, Caroline County, Maryland, Goldsborough attended the public schools and the local academy at Greensboro. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington College of Chestertown, Maryland, in 1899. In 1901, he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Maryland School of Law, was admitted to the bar the same year, and commenced practice in Denton, Maryland. He served as prosecuting attorney for Caroline County from 1904 to 1908, returning to private practice from 1908 to 1921. Robert Henry Goldsborough (January 4, 1779October 5, 1836) was an American politician from Talbot County, Maryland. Early life Goldsborough was born at "Myrtle Grove" near Easton, Maryland. He was educated by private tutors and graduated from St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland in 1795. Career Goldsborough engaged in agricultural pursuits, and also served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates in 1804. During the War of 1812, Goldsborough commanded a troop of horsemen in the Maryland Militia. In 1813, Goldsborough was elected as a Federalist to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy in the term commencing March 4, 1813 caused by the failure of the legislature to elect a senator, and served from May 21, 1813 to March 3, 1819. Robert Gerald Goldsborough (born October 3, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American journalist and writer of mystery novels. He worked for 45 years for the ''Chicago Tribune'' and ''Advertising Age'', but gained prominence as the author of a series of 16 authorized pastiches of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe detective stories, published from 1986 to 1994 and from 2012 to 2021. The first novel, ''Murder in E Minor'' (1986), received a Nero Award. In 2005, Goldsborough published ''Three Strikes You're Dead'', the first novel of a five book series of period mysteries featuring ''Chicago Tribune'' reporter Steve (Snap) Malek. Robert Goldsborough (December 3, 1733 – December 22, 1788) was an American lawyer and statesman from Maryland. He served as a delegate to the Continental Congress. Early life Robert Goldsborough was the son of Elizabeth (née Ennalls) and Charles Goldsborough. and was born on the family estate ''(Horns Point)'' at Cambridge in Dorchester County, Province of Maryland on December 3, 1733. His father owned over 10,000 acres (40 km²) of land, and became a member of the Governor's Council in 1760. As a young man Robert travelled to London to study law at the Middle Temple and graduated in December 1752, where he was admitted to the bar in February 1757. Phillips Lee Goldsborough I (August 6, 1865October 22, 1946), was an American Republican politician and member of the United States Senate representing State of Maryland from 1929 to 1935. He was also the 47th Governor of Maryland from 1912 to 1916 and Comptroller of the Maryland Treasury from 1898 to 1900. To date, he is the last Republican to serve as Comptroller of Maryland. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) John Goldesburg or Goldesborough or Gouldsborough (1568–1618), legal reporter, descended from a family living at Goldsborough, West Riding of Yorkshire, was born on 18 October 1568. He studied at Oxford in 1584, entered the Middle Temple, and was called to the bar by that society. He enjoyed a good reputation as a lawyer, and was made one of the prothonotaries of the common pleas. He died 9 October 1618, and was buried near the high altar in the Temple Church. Sir John Goldsborough (died November 1693) was a sea-captain and administrator of the British East India Company. Biography Early life He was a native of Suffolk, in which county he possessed an estate. He was in command of the East Indiaman ''Antelope'' when that ship was taken by a Dutch fleet, between Masulipatam and Madras on 22 August 1673. His account of the engagement is in the Bodleian Library. He later commanded the ''Falcon'' in 1673–4, and ''Bengal Merchant'' in 1676–7, 1683, and 1686. Francis Herbert Goldsborough (July 16, 1910 – July 16, 1930) was a record-holding aviator who died in a plane crash in Vermont on his 20th birthday. Early years Goldsborough was born in Washington, D.C. His father was Brice Goldsborough, who died in a plane crash as Frances Wilson Grayson's navigator on an attempted crossing of the Atlantic Ocean from Newfoundland. Frank's stepmother was named Gertrude. By the time he was 18 the family was living in New York where he attended Flushing High School in Queens. Transcontinental speed record Goldsborough held the junior transcontinental air speed record until his death.
