Gilad Shalit
Gilad Shalit ( he-a, גלעד שליט, Shalit.ogg, ''Gilˁad Šaliṭ'', born 28 August 1986) is a former MIA soldier of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) who on 25 June 2006, was captured by Palestinian militants in a cross-border raid via tunnels near the Israeli border. Hamas held him captive for over five years, until his release on 18 October 2011 as part of a prisoner exchange deal. During his captivity, Hamas turned down requests from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to be allowed to visit Shalit, claiming that any such visit could betray his location. Zrubavel Gilad
Zrubavel Gilad ( he, זרובבל גלעד, also ; 9 December 1912 – 12 August 1988) was a Hebrew poet, editor and translator. Biography Gilad was born in 1912 in Bender, Bessarabia (then part of the Russian Empire and now in Moldova), and his family (Bessarabian Jews) fled to Odessa during World War I. After the Russian Revolution, they moved to Mandate Palestine. In 1924, they settled in Ein Harod, where he lived until his death in 1988. He was one of the first children in the kibbutz. Gilad began to publish stories in 1929 and poetry in 1931. He published articles in most newspapers and magazines in Israel. Rabbi Yehuda Gilad ( he, יהודה גלעד, born 30 August 1955) is a former Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Meimad between 2002 and 2003. Biography Born in Brazil, Gilad's family immigrated to Israel when he was eight. He was certified as a rabbi, and headed a yeshiva. Amos Gilad ( he, עמוס גלעד; January 23, 1941–December 2010) was an Israeli Olympic runner. When he competed in the Olympics, he was 5-8 (173 cm) tall, and weighed 137 lbs (62 kg). Running career Gilad won the Israeli 800 m national championships in 1961 (1:56.5) and 1962 (2:00.6). In October 1964, he ran 800 meters in 1:51.9, three-tenths of a second short of his Israeli national record. His personal best in the 800 m is 1:51.4 (1964). 2014 Kidnapping And Murder Of Israeli Teenagers
On 12 June 2014, three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped at the bus/ hitchhiking stop at the Israeli settlement of Alon Shvut in Gush Etzion, in the West Bank, as they were hitchhiking to their homes. The three teens were Naftali Frenkel (16, from Nof Ayalon), Gilad Shaer (16, from Talmon), and Eyal Yifrah (19, from Elad). Gilad Shaer called a police emergency hotline to report the kidnapping. The emergency call recording, initially under a gag order, was leaked to the public. After Shaer's whispered message "They kidnapped me,” the taped call also recorded shouting in Arabic from the kidnappers and several volleys of automatic gunfire. Within days, Israeli investigators, though lacking conclusive proof, strongly suspected the teenagers had been killed, and, if so, knew where the victims' bodies would probably have been dumped. Gilad Atzmon
Gilad Atzmon ( he, גלעד עצמון, ; born 9 June 1963) is a British jazz saxophonist, novelist, political activist, and writer. As a musician, he is best known as a saxophonist and bandleader. His instruments include the saxophone, accordion, clarinet, zurna and flute. Dubbed the "hardest working man in British jazz", Atzmon has been known to play over 100 dates a year. He has been bandleader, successively, of the Gilad Atzmon Quartet, the Spiel Acid Jazz Band and the Orient House Ensemble. Exploring identity through the folk forms of diverse cultures, his bands and other projects have recorded around 20 albums.
