George Perry (composer)
George Frederick Perry (1793 – 4 March 1862) was a British violinist and organist, and composer of operas and oratorios. He was musical director of the Haymarket Theatre, and later was leader of the orchestra of the Sacred Harmonic Society. Early years Perry was born in Norwich in 1793; his father was a turner and an amateur bass singer who took part in the annual performance of an oratorio at the cathedral, under John Christmas Beckwith. Through Beckwith, Perry became a member of the cathedral choir, and his musical ability was noticed. Perry locally learned violin and piano, also harmony and composition. About 1818 Perry became leader of the orchestra at the Theatre Royal, Norwich, then an institution enjoying a high reputation. Perry wrote an oratorio, ''The Death of Abel'' (text by George Bennett of the Norwich Theatre), which was first performed in Norwich, and afterwards repeated by the Sacred Harmonic Society in 1841 and 1845. George Perry (1719 – 3 February 1771) was an English engineer, ironmaster, merchant, draughtsman and cartographer. Biography Perry was a native of Somerset and was related to Micajah Perry, Lord Mayor of London in 1747. His family was well known in the area and Perry was "intended for the church". However Perry joined the iron works at Coalbrookdale, where he worked with John Wilkinson. George Perry (7 Oct 1818 – 9 Jan 1891) was an Ontario political figure. He represented Oxford North in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Ontario Liberal Party, Liberal member from 1867 to 1872. Perry was a teacher and also served as reeve of Blenheim, Ontario, Blenheim Township. He gave up his seat in 1872 to allow Oliver Mowat to sit in the legislature. George Perry (neuroscientist)
George Perry (born April 12, 1953) is a professor of biology and chemistry at the University of Texas at San Antonio and the former dean of the College of Sciences. Perry is recognized in the field of Alzheimer's disease research, particularly for his work on oxidative stress. Education Perry received his Bachelor of Arts degree in zoology from University of California, Santa Barbara. After graduation, he studied at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Hopkins Marine Station of Stanford University, and the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole; he obtained his Ph.D. from the University of California at San Diego in Marine Biology under David Epel in 1979. He then received a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Cell Biology in the laboratories of William R. Brinkley, Joseph Bryan and Anthony R. George Gresley Perry (1820–1897) was an English churchman and academic, known as a church historian and Archdeacon of Stow. Life Born at Churchill, Somerset, he was the twelfth and youngest child of William Perry, a friend and neighbour of Hannah More. He was educated at Ilminster under the Rev. John Allen, and in 1837 he won a scholarship on the Bath and Wells foundation at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. In 1840 he graduated B.A. with a second class in '' literae humaniores'', and obtained the Wells fellowship at Lincoln College, Oxford with the support of Mark Pattison. He graduated M.A. in 1843, and was ordained by the bishop of Oxford, as deacon in 1844 and priest in 1845. Perry held for a short time, first, the curacy of Wick on the coast of Somerset, and then that of Combe Florey. In 1847 he returned to Oxford as college tutor at Lincoln, a post he held until 1852. George L. Perry is an American economist, currently a Senior Fellow emeritus at the Brookings Institution.http://www.brookings.edu/~/media/experts/p/perryg/perryg_cv.pdf In 1970, he and Arthur Okun founded the Brookings Panel and its journal, the Brookings Papers on Economic Activity (BPEA). They conceived the Panel as a way to apply rigorous economic research to current economic puzzles, problems and policy issues. After Okun's death in 1980, William Brainard replaced him and Brainard and Perry ran the Panel and edited BPEA until 2007. In his own research, Perry specializes in labor markets, inflation, fiscal and monetary policy, financial markets, and economic forecasting. George Wesly Perry (born 1953), known professionally as "Chocolate Perry" is an American bassist, songwriter and producer. Perry has worked with the Bee Gees, John Cougar, Jon Secada, Stephen Stills, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Al Kooper, Dion DiMucci, Joe Walsh, Joe Vitale, Ivano Fossati and many more. Early life and career Perry was born and raised in Carver Ranches, West Park, Florida. He started his career in the 1970s at the leading soul and disco independent TK Records, run by entrepreneur/ record distributor, Henry Stone in Hialeah, Florida. He played bass on many of the records issued by the company before its demise in 1980. He later went out on the road, performing with some of the biggest rock and pop artists of the time.
