George Duckett (Calne MP)
George Duckett (19 February 1684 – 6 October 1732), of Hartham House, Corsham, Wiltshire, was a British lawyer and Whig politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons for between 1705 and 1723. He was also a poet and author who was literary combatant of Alexander Pope. Early life Duckett was the eldest son of Lionel Duckett and his wife Martha (née Ashe, 1651–1688), daughter of Samuel Ashe of Langley Burrell, Wiltshire. In 1693, he succeeded to the estates of his father. He matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford on 29 November 1700, aged 15, and was admitted to the Middle Temple in 1703. Career At the 1705 general election, Duckett was returned in a contest as Whig Member of Parliament for Calne, in Wiltshire. He was very active in Parliament, acting several times as Teller. Sir George Duckett, 1st Baronet
Sir George Duckett, 1st Baronet (24 October 1725 – 22 December 1822) was a British naval administrator and politician. Born George Jackson, probably in Yorkshire, the third but oldest surviving son of George Jackson (1687/8–1758) of Hill House, Richmond, Yorkshire, and Ellerton Abbey, Yorkshire, and Hannah, daughter of William Ward of Guisborough, Yorkshire. He sat as Member of Parliament (MP) for Weymouth & Melcombe Regis from 1786 to 1788, and for Colchester from 1790 to 1796. He was created a baronet on 21 June 1791. Jackson was made Deputy Secretary to The Admiralty in 1766 and appointed Judge Advocate of the Fleet in 1768. In this capacity he was largely responsible for the conduct of the court martial of Admiral Lord Keppel in 1779 and the subsequent enquiry into the evidence of Sir Hugh Palliser. Sir George Duckett, 2nd Baronet
Sir George Duckett, 2nd Baronet (17 July 1777 – 15 June 1856) was a British landowner and politician. Biography He was born George Jackson, the only surviving son of George Jackson, who adopted the surname of Duckett on 3 February 1797. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in the West Essex militia in 1797, and was promoted to captain in 1798, major in 1804 and lieutenant-colonel in 1805. In 1807 he was elected Member of Parliament for Lymington, replacing his brother-in-law Sir Harry Burrard Neale. In 1812 he was returned for Plympton Erle, but he retired later the same year. On 15 December 1822 he succeeded to his father's baronetcy. His inheritance included the tolls on the Stort Navigation, but he invested poorly, as a partner in the bank of Duckett, Morland and Co., and in the unsuccessful Hertford Union Canal. George Floyd Duckett
Sir George Floyd Duckett, 3rd Baronet (1811–1902) was an English army officer, antiquarian and lexicographer. He wrote on his Duckett ancestry, his paternal grandfather having married a Duckett heiress. Life Born at 15 Spring Gardens, Westminster, London on 27 March 1811, he was the eldest child of Sir George Duckett, 2nd Baronet (1777–1856), M.P. for , by his first wife Isabella (1781–1844), daughter of Stainbank Floyd of Barnard Castle; his grandfather Sir George Jackson, 1st Baronet assumed the surname of Duckett in 1797, having married the heiress of that family. After attending private schools at Putney and Wimbledon Common, he was at Harrow School from 1820 to 1823, when he was placed with a private tutor in Bedfordshire. In 1827–8 he studied German at Gotha and Dresden.
